my upgrade...

Post by tdblanchard »

so i found what seems to be a great deal.
••• G4 Dual 1.25GHZ Processor
••• 2GB of RAM
••• 120GB HardDrive Space
••• SuperDrive
plus a 22" ADC cinema display for $1800.
this is an upgrade from my titanium 550 which won't do dp4...at all!

am i missing anything??

That smokes! Put your OS on the ATA 66 bus and use the ATA 133 bus for audio.

The cage below the optical drives has a data cable for the hard drives. This is an independent ATA/66 bus. The cage underneath the PSU is the ATA/100 (or 133, I can't remember right now) connection. Running the OS on one bus and reading/writing project data off the other bus will give you more performance, since doing both on the same bus will bottle neck the bus.

Where did you get that deal anyway? Maybe someone can help me with my question posted in this forum? I need to make a move tomorrow about this.

i got it from this guy on craigslist.
he's legit.
i have the cpu now and it's great, except i had to buy dp4.6 and am still waiting to get it in the mail.
my only issue is that it seems awfully loud....fans.
the guy has a couple of these set-ups. 22" cinema plus G4 dual 1.25 for $1800. not a bad deal at all.
i may want to sell the cpu and get a g5 just to hang on to the display!

There was a PSU replacement program by Apple. They replaced the PSUs beacuse of fan noise. I use one of the reject PSUs in my Phoenix Cube. Even with the replacement they are still louder than previous generation G4s.
