2x Behringer ada8000 and condenser mic noise problems
When I use one ada8000 with my MOTU 828mk3: no problems, sounds good. When I connect a second to my MOTU 828mk3: Starting with channel 1 and continuing on each track, individually, I hear a "tssst" sound. 1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8.. or tsst..tsst..tsst..tsst..tsst. This sound continues as if on a loop until I turn off one of the units. Either one. Only ever happens when both are on. Both units are set to master, and I've tried assigning clock in motu software to adat a and b and internal. same thing every time.
Sometimes I make fun rhythms by muting a few of the 16 adat tracks, and as it plays through it makes an annoying little pattern that ruins my day.

another thing, I have two akg perceptions that are having noise problems. when I turn on the phantom power, they spike, drop to almost zero db, then a low digital rumble starts building up. Wouldn't be a problem if the noise wasn't louder than any signal coming from more than 4 feet away from the capsule.
Any Ideas? Im currently running through a power conditioner, all on one circuit... maybe a grounding issue, but doesn't sound like grounding noises I'm familiar with. sounds like wind, but there is no wind. I'm in wisconsin... the humidity is wretched.. not so bad in my studio, but still somewhat present. maybe shorting out a tiny bit? I have no freakin Idea. The fact that its not there when I turn the mics on, and starts getting louder and louder makes my brain unwrinkle.
The mics make less noise on the ada8000s, but not much less. If they're averaging a -35db noise floor on the MOTU, then they're averaging -45 an the adas. and yes, the noise IS that bad.

Oh, and replace "tracks" with "channels", sorry for the confusion

Try taking that power conditioner out of the loop and see if that changes anything.

Nope, didn't help, thanks though! I even tried a friends power conditioner today but it was exactly the same. There is another user on here who said that overheating was the problem with his mkII, but I tried going to a large rack, 4 spaces between each unit, and a decently powerful fan in the back (with covers off). Makes the tsst tsst noises and the low rumble on the condensers still.
Re: 2x Behringer ada8000 and condenser mic noise problems
Got it. run lightpipe cables TO AND FROM the main motu interface (whichever is going to be the master, connected to PC), make sure adat ins and outputs are assign in the motu settings, set other adat units as Slaves. two 8 channel units will require 4 cables (2 light cables per unit). Someone had suggested better ventilation, and while I suppose better ventilation wont hurt, it won't solve the problem. Doing all of this got rid of my rhythmic white noise, but not the condenser mic rumble. The white noise was the most troublesome problem though, so at least for now I can roll off the bass on those condensers. Will be a bigger problem when I start micing piano though....

Do your mics make this same noise when plugged into anything else such as a mixer?
I had a RØDE mic make a similar noise if I am understanding you correctly. I had it replaced under their 10 year warranty and the problem was gone.
I am glad that you got the other problem fixed.

+1 Definitely so this so you can make sure it's not the mics.mikehalloran wrote:Do your mics make this same noise when plugged into anything else such as a mixer?
