24-Hour Sale on Sonic Implants Libraries ($250 vs $1K)

Post by mhschmieder »

Having missed out on the late May 2011 similar fire sale on the SONiVOX (Sonic Implants) Brass Library by just a couple of minutes due to not noticing the sale's time zone wasn't adjusted for the West Coast, I don't want to make the same mistake with this one.

Hopefully Woodwinds will be next, as that is my favourite (though the Harp is nice and also the Percussion, even if slightly more redundant with Vienna Symphonic Library than some of the strings, brass and woodwind treatments).

I hadn't noticed before that this library has separate first and second violin sections (which will sound different) -- I have desperately needed this for years, and along with a "unique" bass section sizing that is more to my liking than most libraries (four players), I am totally IN on this deal. I regret missing the Brass deal but mostly for the unique Tuba articulations.

I may be interested in the Woodwinds as well. I wonder how I can get on their email list for announcements.

Edit: found it under the Home page tab. Stuff sounds great!

By your wording, I am guessing that you too just barely missed the Brass deal.

I'm hoping they'll offer that one again later on.

Sorely this 24-hour pricing at $250 is nearer the realistic price for libraries of this vintage, given the current competition?

Yes, missed it too, fingers crossed eh.
Surely this 24-hour pricing at $250 is nearer the realistic price for libraries of this vintage, given the current competition?
It is yes, though strange that the sale is only for such a short time, I think more would pick it up if they ran it for longer. Still a fine set of recordings despite their age, & an absolute steal at that price.

All that remains is to port it into MachFive & give it a new lease of life 8)

Well, I might be wrong about the pricing of DVD-delivered libraries, as Eric Persing (or one of his reps, I forget which) just went into a lengthy explanation over at the vi-control forum regarding why legacy libraries NEED to keep their high prices. It has to do with overhead on new production runs, if their stock runs low or runs out, and they have to guess how many to make for the next batch. Also other related factors.

I think this is the MAIN reason vendors are moving to direct downloads of humongous libraries, and not just to cut out the middle person (I don't think this is their main intent, as some of these download-only licenses are still sold through resellers).

It's back, but this time it applies individually or collectively (your choice) to Brass, Woodwinds, and Strings (Percussion and Harp are not included in the current 24-hour sale, which has less than 22 hours to go as I write this):

http://www.sonivoxmi.com/ProductList.as ... lSymphonic

It's going to be hard for me to get caught up quickly enough with bills and budget to pull this off on short notice (I already have Strings, fortunately), as I just got back a few hours ago from a short family visit on the east coast.

I placed the order last night, for Brass and Woodwinds.

There's enough that is unique about these libraries -- and they are so well-recorded -- that I felt it worth it at that price.

I'll probably eventually buy the Harp library as well, and maybe even the Percussion library as it includes some musical effects that aren't covered as well by VSL.

Does this come with the Kontakt player, or does it require the full blown Kontakt to run it?

Purchased the woodwinds. Wanted something to supplement the EW Play samples.

Shoosh, as far as I can tell, one would need the full Kontakt player.

Wait… Kontakt PLAYER or Konakt?
One is free. The other costs more than the string library offer.

I've got the form filled out and I'm ready to hit "Send," if it doesn't involve buying the full-blown Kontakt.

After considerable searching, I finally found this little bit of info on some sales website:
  • A full version of Native Instruments "Kontakt" is required for unlimited functionality!
Please notice: With the free Kontakt Player 4 (or newer) you can play this library in demo/test mode only!
That pretty much kills the deal for me. I don't want to get deeply involved with Kontakt again, as it makes OSX upgrade time a stressful event. Some of their updates have been quite difficult to get working.

There are other libraries, other deals.

Sorry, Sh, I did mean the full Kontakt version, yes. Which is indeed a pretty big deal if one has not bought into that scheme as of now.

No problem! I probably should have invested in Kontakt's full version long ago, but I did not. I'm one of those hopeless optimistics who cling to MachFive, thinking that someday there will be a library made for it. Or maybe it's just the thought of spending another $400 for something that's just a player. I have no use for its other features.

Someday, maybe I'll do it. It'll take more than these libraries to trip that switch, though.
