OSX LION and DP6

Post by yesdog »

I did a stupid thing, I upgraded to Lion and now DP6 does not work. I should have done some research before downloading this. Does anyone now if DP6 will ever work on OSX Lion, are there any fixes coming. The good news is I record for a hobby, the bad news is I do not have any money to by DP7. This is very upsetting, I have a 500.00 program that will not work.

No It won't work. Either you revert back your OS or you shed the 200$ for DP7.24. Even the DP7 versions prior to DP7.24 won't work. (eg. DP7.00-DP7.23)

Sorry. :(

On a happier note, DP7 is a SUBSTANTIAL update and the 7.21-7.24 are REALLY effective and solid versions. So they're worth every penny.

So if anyone buys a new mac and has DP6 they have to upgrade to DP7 and spend another 200.00. If thats true, what a shame.

Yes, but this is true with most other audio apps.
DP6 was released 3 years ago, it's made to work with OS versions current with it's time. This is part of using computers. Don't upgrade your OS and expect old versions to work. The current version of DP is compatible with Lion. I don't understand how someone can expect anything more than that. With your logic MOTU would have to make DP 1-6 compatible with Lion as well. What a waste of resources that they can use on improving the current version instead.

And as has been said, DP7.2 is far superior to DP6. You will be glad you were 'forced' to upgrade ;-)

That's just reality. You're talking about any app released long before the current OS. Complain to Steve Jobs. :)

If you had DP 6.03 (it has to be that version) installed in the default location on your system drive, authorized with the original CD in SL and then you upgraded the drive to Lion, there is no reason at all it shouldn't work. I had no problems.

6.03 was the only version that was Universal Binary. Earlier versions were PPC as is the installer.

I don't like 6 and still use 5.13 which I also have working in Lion. Any plugins that are not UB, likewise, will not work in Lion.

To be clear, I cloned my hard drive, re-authorized everything, then upgraded to 10.7. Also, I did this for the helluvit, just to see if it will work. I don't recommend this and, at some point soon, I do intend to upgrade DP.

My main drive is still running 10.6.8 and will do so till I have tried everything on my backup drive.

If you were backing up to TimeMachine - and you should be, you can restore your drive to the way it was before you installed Lion.

I was one of the DP 6.03 users for whom the program stopped working when Lion came out - it would open up, but then hang up as soon as I tried to actually do anything. I'm just writing to say that, with the release of 10.7.2, DP6 is working perfectly again. Better, in fact, than it did for me with 10.6.

I'm still eagerly awaiting DP8, but it's nice to have a functioning DP.

Coolness. I had installed 10.7, then 10.7.1 before I tried DP 6.

Interestingly, I just tried to fire up DP 6 while booted from my test drive and it asked for the Authorization CD - which I know won't work. I also know the reason for this: I currently have my test drive hooked up via eSATA. When I installed etc, it was connected via Firewire. I would expect that, if I re-connected via Firewire, DP 6.0.3 would work again.

Having 7.24, I never expect to do anything in 6 again and will trash it like I did on my main drive. I still expect to reopen old projects in 5.13 for minor tweaking - the devil I know etc...

5.13 also works fine for me in Lion. I had some plugin issues in Leopard and Snow Leopard but cleaned them up before I ever got to 10.7.
