sample rate problem

Post by veloce »

I recently was given a song to remix that was recorded in ProTools. The ProTools project was apparently recorded at 44.1, but was either saved at 48, or improperly clocked somehow, therefore the files play back too fast and pitched up several steps. What do I do to make the files play back at the proper speed and pitch? I'm guessing that there is a straight forward solution . . .

They were obviously recorded to a 44.1k session while actually being clocked externally at 48k.

Once you've imported these files into DP select them all in the Soundbites window. Now, from the mini-menu choose "Convert Audio File". In the window that opens choose "Sample Rate" and convert 44100 to 48000 and (IMPORTANT) check the box that says "Only change the file's recognized sample rate but do not process the file's audio". This will only change the headers of the files to say they are 48k files (which they really are). I would then change your project sample rate to 48k.

From here I would continue to work on the project at 48k and only sample rate convert the final mix back to 44.1k if needed.

I'm having the same issue, and followed the prescription (using DP 7.24), but with the "do not convert, just relabel" box checked in Convert Audio File, it still converts it, and gives a system error sometimes. Something buggy going on here...I've put in a tech support ticket.

If I remember correctly in DP5, if the external clock was different from the chosen sample rate, the sample rate would show in RED in the Transport window. It doesn't do that anymore, it would be nice if it did.

MOTU Tech Support couldn't replicate my sample rate conversion problem in DP8, so I downloaded the demo version and converted the files with it. It works in DP8, but appears to be "broken" in 7.24. Luckily, DP8 sessions can be opened in DP7 as well.
