Quick Scribe Oddness

Post by soniq2 »

I'm using DP6.

Whenever I choose Quick Scribe the graphics being used to represent everything in the view are all goofed up. There are symbols like OE, ?, etc. (I wish I could attach a screen capture to show you what I'm seeing).
There are no actual notes, just a bunch of weird symbols. :banghead:

I can see the staff. However, instead of notes, the staff is filled will these weird symbols. :surrender:

Has anyone else experienced this and if so any ideas on what the problem is and what I can do to fix it? :?:

Thanks

Sounds like missing fonts. There was a font problem with a recent update of Mac which was then fixed. Check Software Update and make sure everything is up to date. If that doesn't fix it, I think you'll need to reinstall DP.
Mac 2.8 8-core, 20 GB RAM, Mac 10.9, DP 8, EWQLSO Platinum Play, Mach V II, Kontakt 5, Superior Drummer, AIR, Absynth 5, Plectrum, CronoX, Albino3, RMV, cup of tea.

search the nation boards for "quickscribe" as there's a whole thread on here that describes this problem and how to fix it. It has to do with the quickscribe font which needs to be in your contents folder within the DP app. I had this same issue many moons ago and can't remember the exact fix but I vaguely remember a free app called Font Finagler that helped fix the problem for me.

Thanks all for your responses.

Unfortunately, I'm still not getting invalid characters. :banghead:

I've tried the following:
1) Updated to latest OSX (10.6.7)
2) Removed all/any Quickscribe file from either font folder (/library/fonts & /username/library/fonts).
3) Verified QuickscribeX exists in the current install of DP (version 6.01 31369)
4) Cleaned cache by rebooting, holding shift and waiting for safe-boot and HD to spin-down.
5) Reboot normally.

Still garbled fonts.

I even tried the following:
1) Reinstalled DP from scratch (after completely removing it).
2) Ran DP on a different iMac (we have 3).

Still the same results. Garbled characters in QuickScribe pane.

What could I be doing wrong (unless the QuickScribeX font file itself is somehow corrupt on my install disc)?

Thanks :surrender:

When I had this problem with DP7 and Snow Leopard I found the answer by downloading a free app called Font Finagler which did the font cleaning and it worked for me. You may be having a different problem but maybe give this a try and see if it helps. I don't think it can hurt!

Hey Mike,

I had a similar problem on my system. The fix was to first download the 6.02 then 6.03.

After the updates, I still had to dump my font cache, as mentioned above, (Font Finagler and Onyx, among others, can do this).

Alternatively, booting your Mac in Safe Mode (hold shift after start chime then let go at spinning gear) then restarting will also clear system cache files.

Hope this helps!

Well, that did it.

It was indeed a font issue.
I wasn't aware that there were updates to DP (6.02 and 6.03).

I just needed to update to these two versions (thanks spire10 for the clue). :woohoo:

Thanks again everyone for your help!!!

I'd upgrade to DP7, if I were you. MUCH BETTER version in every way.
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.
