I am going to help a band with recording 16 tracks (88.2kHz/24bit). They will probably buy a MOTU 828mk3. A non MOTU interface will feed 8 channels ADAT SMUX into the MOTU 828mk3.
My general question is if there is limitations when a non MOTU interface feeds 8 channels (ADAT) into the MOTU 828mk3 ? I'm thinking about the internal mixer and effects in MOTU 828mk3 which I want to use for headphone mixes.
I guess the other interface must be slaved to the clock of the MOTU 828mk3 via BNC. Should not be a problem I presume.
If I for some reason decide to use MOTU 828mk3 for feeding another interface, will it require the MOTU to be connected to a computer, or will it output ADAT anyway ?
One last question, can the MOTU 828mk3 internal mixer be controlled from a MIDI controller surface like behringer control surface ? without need for computer ? ...if I want to use it as a simple mixer when I'm not doing recordings . http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BCF2000.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
