Welcome to my nightmare

Post by yofo »

I just got a new computer, upgraded to an intel quad core running OSX 10.6.7. from an old mac running 10.5 and my plugins are not coming up correctly, the biggest problem is altiverb. All the parameters come up at zero. Reverb time, size, mix, dampening all load in at zero.

I am using altiverb 6 and wave arts masterverb 5 but I don't know if they are "intel". They work fine when I load from scratch but they don't come up correctly when I load an old project from 10.5. Also, I installed them this week and I think they are latest versions.

You don't say how long you've been working on this, but I wonder if you've contacted any of the vendors or MOTU? Also, did you use migration assistant to move he old system? If so you might consider a complete new install from all original install discs - including DP. Yes, a PITA but migration assistant doesn't always copy all essential elements. That may be a factor to consider

May I be the first to suggest DP7... 7.21 is the best version ever on my G5, and with your new hardware, a no-brainer.

Have you set up Altiverb so that it knows where the impulses all are? If it's a new version of Altiverb running on a pristine version of DP, you may have to make sure it knows where all the presets are.

Also, if you're still having problems, you may want to consider reinstalling all your stuff via Carbon Copy Cloner. Just wipe the new computer's hard drive, reinstall the system, make sure it's all updated to current, then run a link between the old computer and the new one via FireWire. You can then select it to copy everything to the new drive but the system software and it will put everything where it was on the old computer. Unfortunately, this means you'll have to re-enter a lot of serials and authorizations, but you'll then have a new system with everything in place from the old one. Then, make sure DP can see where everything is. From there, you can install all the new versions of your software and everything will still be in place. A lot of work, though ...

One more thing: can DP 5.13 even run in Snow Leopard?

.

I'll second what HCMarkus advised you: Get DP7!

Hmmmmm... The title of this thread captured my attention (it could've been one of MY own thread titles), but the content was a little anti-climatic :?

Hi yofo. I recently upgraded from a G5 to an Intel machine and had the same exact problem with Altiverb. I contacted them about it and they told me it's a situation they can't resolve (BUG). It has to do with opening up old projects that were done on a G5 machine using a newer Intel machine. Unfortunately the only solution they gave me was to open the old projects on the G5 and save the settings as a preset. Then copy those presets to the new Intel machine, open up the old project and load the new saved preset. You know how many old projects I have? Ha! Anyways, that's the only way to make it happen.
