Marlowe,

What is your OS, what's your 1394 chipset, and how are they connected?

I can probably help out here, just need a little more info. Does the 828 just simply not get detected at all? (i.e., does it not show up in Device Manager, or does it not show up in FW Console?)

There are a few things we could try. .... besides "buying a mac".

I just migrate from mac to pc and i‘m having the same problem with my 828.
I have a TI firewire card, windows xp sp2, and i tried to install the newest drivers with my 828 plugged and turned on. Is this the problem? Is there any way of correct this error without reinstalling windows?
I read too that the problem is with the SP2. Shoud I install an sp1 version?
None of motu sft could find the 828. Than i tried the "add hardware" and I could find it in the device manager. But, my cubase sx3 can‘t find it.
What should I do?
Thanks

Hey all,

I had this exact same problem when i upgraded my computer. Both cubase and reason wouldnt recognise the ASIO drivers at all. Couldnt figure it out until i realised that the new computer had XP SP2 installed and, yeah, it does seem to make a difference. A nice bloke by the name of arth posted this in my thread which might be helpful:

"2: If running XP SP2 and you have a 1394B controller, and you don't run other firewire devices, install Microsoft fix KB885222. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222

3: If running XP SP1, or XP SP2 with KB885222 installed, you must not mix and match 1394A and 1394B devices. Use two controllers (two ports on the same controller isn't good enough) if need be.

3b: If you have a 1394A controller, this patch must not be installed.

4: If using the KB885222 patch, leave the SidSpeed registry value at 2 (S400 speed). Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe that the MOTU devices get any benefit from S800 anyhow, and the problem which caused Microsoft to lower it in the first place was that there were dropouts when trying to use S800 speeds with certain hardware combinations."

Beware the firewire hotfix! I installed it (i have a 1394a controller!) and the computer subsequently didnt recognised my 828MKII AT ALL. I fixed my problem by installing SP1. There's nothing in SP 2 that i really need and it has some known firewire issues. I would suggest u go with SP1 if its possible. Or, if u have the hotfix installed and have a 1394a controller, then uninstall the patch. I hear, however, that the new drivers are supposed to address problems related to using MOTU gear in SP2. Is this right? i havent downloaded them out of fear that it will ruin something...

Regards
