So I've had my MK1 Traveller for about 5 years now and all was great until last year when I started getting really bad noise whenever I used phantom power. It took me a bit to figure out what was causing it exactly but after testing dynamic mics and line inputs, it was clear that it was phantom power.
I emailed Black Lion Audio with a sound clip to see if anything they did (I got their clock/component upgrade when I got the traveller) might have something to do with this. They said no.
I contact a local repair tech (Noisebox in Manchester, UK) and £95 later I got my Traveller back. This was back in August last year. I've not done a terrible amount of recording since then, but now I'm noticing the same problem.
Here is an audio clip of it happening:
http://rodrigoconstanzo.com/motu/noise.mp3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is in a quiet room, indoors, in a shockmount, with nothing moving. Other things are if you make any loud/sudden sounds, the sound cuts out completely.
My traveller has firmware 1.07
I'm using OS X 10.6.6 on a Macbook Pro 13" 2.4Ghz (late 2010 model)
Software is Logic Pro 9.1.3
I did a search on the forums but most of what I saw was in reference to the MK3 version and/or said to use an external phantom power supply. That kind of defeats the purpose of having a bus-powered interface particularly when it cost around $900 when I bought it.
I just tested it again and it's dead quiet so not sure what's happening here. Maybe it starts happening after a while of use?
Anyone with an older Traveller run into something like this?
MK1 Traveller and horrible phantom noise.
