DP 7.22 Spacebar Play/stop not working w/ Plugins open

Wondering if anyone else is having this issue. Maybe i missed a setting, since i recently re-installed my entire system. When i have certain plugins (eg., the PSP plugins like Vintage Warmer 2, or N20, NI Gtr Rig 4) or certain instruments (ev. NI Reaktor) showing on screen, the space bar does not work to start/stop playback. It just beeps with the system error beep.

Is there a setting i missed? or have other people experienced this?

OSX 10.6.7
Macpro Intel 8-core 2.8ghz
12 GB ram
Rosetta xFirewire/800


any help would be appreciated regarding this inconvenience.

Hmm.

Toss out DP's preferences and reboot the computer and DP. Don't forget to empty the trash before you reboot.

User> Library> Preferences> Digital Performer> *preferences*

If that doesn't do it, run the latest installer for DP. PLEASE report back to let us know if that worked or didn't work.

I've noticed this from time to time over the years with different plugins. The latest for me is the Slate Digital Virtual Console Collection. I just have to click back onto DP for it to work again. Ozone 3/4 has always done this, but there you can actually write parameters into the plug if you press the wrong keyboard commands, like using the keypad for transport.

I hate it.

Tritonedigital's Valvetone 64 and Classictone behave the same way. When I asked Salvator from Tritonedigital about it, he said:

This is something that is on the list.
The problem is that even the apple's own AU samples (provided to developpers) have the same behavior with DP. Should not be something hard to fix but we have to dig a little further when times allow.

I have this in NI Battery and Stillwell Event Horizon (demo) although I'm using the enter key on the numerical pad.

It's something called preserving focus. Noble Stillwell, for one, actually acknowledges that an issue exists, and chalks it up to DP's use of an older Cocoa framework, saying that it will be righted when DP updates that code.

I have been having this same thing with Cytomic's The Glue (otherwise it's killer).

Happens to me with all three Spectrasonics VI's: Omnisphere, Trilian and Stylux RMX. They worked fine on my old G5. I get the keyboard lockout thing on my new 6-Core. It sounds like a MOTU issue.

It's a bug in DP with the handling of Cocoa-based plugins. Most plugins now use Cocoa, so this is becoming more and more noticeable. MOTU put a fix for this into 7.11 and that improved things for many users, but there are still reports of some users encountering this problem. If you encounter it, be sure to report the details to MOTU.

Glad to hear I'm not going crazy! It is only happening on my system here at the studio, the other rooms seem to work without a problem, but they are running on Nehalem Macpro 8-cores.

Reaktor is really painful to not have work, since i would love to be able to hit play, and tweak the sound as i go. a minor inconvenience to switch windows, but it definitely screws with my workflow.

This was the explanation from Spectrasonics:

-- Digital Performer might not have keyboard focus if nXtasy V3 is selected, this is due to DP using the old Carbon Apple Framework for it's UI and it will be fixed when DP is updated to the new framework.

I'm running into this more and more and it's getting to be a real drag. Most recently with Blue Cat Audio's Analysis bundle (they pointed me to this thread). Has anything changed in 7.23 with this issue? I haven't wanted to upgrade from 7.21 but maybe I will if the keyboard focus is fixed.

Maybe we'll have to wait for DP's Lion update?
