Motu 2408 MKIII CueMix Question

Post by Wurst Werner »

Hi,

I'm new here and obviously not a native speaker, so prepare for some "experimental english" :D
I have a Motu Setup with two 2408 MKIII and a 424 card, that I use for live recordings. But I thought about to use this rig to do some studio work in the future. So I looked deeper into CueMix for perparing headphonemixes. Everything works fine, but I have a question about the routing. I tried the "search", but couldn't find an answer.

"Is there any way in CueMix to route back the stereo mix of an audio sequenzer (Cubase 5)???

When doing overdubs I need to route the recorded basic tracks into the headphone mix but I have no idea how to do that in CueMix? I don't have a mixing desk...just a computer and CueMix.

Cheers

Guten abend!

One important thing to remember here is that CueMix only controls sounds coming *IN* to the interface.
What you should do is to choose an output pair that you use for the phones. The best, most versatile way is to choose a separate stereo pair such as Output 3-4.

If you set up Cubase so each track has a send that sends to a bus/aux track that then goes to output 3-4 you can control the mix for the headphones seperately from your main mix going out to main outs 1-2. Drawback here is that you can't use the headphone out on the 2408 as it mirrors output 1-2 and need a seperate headphone amp. But it's highly recommended you get one unless you have something you can use as such.

Then in CueMix you choose output 3-4 and there you control the sounds coming in.
This way, you can also do a different mix for control room and headphones while recording!

It's a little work and can be tricky the first time but well worth it!

best regards

god morgon :D

thanks for your reply! I have a bunch of headphone amps that I can use, but I'm not sure, if I got you right on the routing. So the plan is to set up a headphone mix in cubase and route it to output 3/4...but than again I can't control it within CueMix? I'm sorry, I didn't catch that. I need to have both: Need to have the basic tracks (f.e. drums, bass and gtr) coming from Cubase into CueMix and than f.e. the vocal track, that should be overdubed to previously recorded signals.

Maybe it would be easier to create a loopback (f.e. SPDIF out to SPDIF in, if possible) or use a tiny 4channel mixer for routing back the Cubase output into two unused inputs of the 2408MKIII. But the 2nd solution would double the latency of the whole system. BTW: Thanks for the info that Cuemix only mirrors the inputsignals. I wasn't sure about this.
