Hey all
I'm taking my MBP with DP on the road for a couple of months as a portable hotel room recording rig. I'm searching for a portable pocket style firewire/USB hard drive.
Anyone got any opinions? I've been looking at the Lacie stuff, but I had a Lacie Quadra that was hardly used in the studio and the power supply went on it. So I'm just a bit hesitant with Lacie.
Any idea's are greatly appreciated.
Thanx

Samsung has some nice offerings, but I don't know if the small portable stuff is available in firewire. My son got one of their USB 2 drives and is happy with it. Think he got it from Newegg.

Thanx Phil
I guess I don't really need Firewire for this drive as I'll only be tracking idea's in an attempt to not drink on the road
, and I would think USB would be fine.
I'll search some Samsung stuff....

I have the Lacie FireWire 500 gigabyte and it works great. It comes in a highly protective case - no need to get any other case.
I think it is really good, and it didn't cost any more than a USB Hard Drive.

Re: Portable harddrive opinions....
Dan, I strongly recommend firewire.
It allows building a clone of your system drive thru SuperDuper.
In case of wreck you'll plug this one and you're up and running in minutes. And you'll escape from drinking to much!
BTW this does include partitioning the drive. Let's say : system, musical projects, other datas.
And AFAICT many FW drives do work fine without external power, while USB drives often don't.

Thanx for the all the advice on this. I'm leaning on a Lacie 500. The little rugged series. There is one here in W-Loo and I'm goin' to take a look thus morning.
