Post by c808788 »

Hi

I am a newby to this. What i would like to do is setup Karaoke system using Motu 828mk3 and cubase 5

Karaoke from my PC
Microphone using motu imput
Using Cubase 5 as master control sound and including recording back to PC
Any idea how to set this up. What i need to set in the Motu Audio control
and what is the audio interface should i choose for default audio under sound and audio devices (PC control Panel).

Your message leaves out some details. I'll make some assumptions to fill in the blanks, and make recommendations.
Karaoke from my PC
I assume you mean you're running some Karaoke software on your PC. This program loads something like an mp3 video file showing the lyrics highlighted while the audio track is the music backing track.

Set it to output to the MOTU's "Main Out 1 - 2" audio device. If the program doesn't have a menu somewhere to set its audio output device, then it uses control panel's defaults. Go into control panel's "Sounds" and set the default audio playback device to the MOTU's "Main Out". (ie, Make sure it has a checkmark).
Microphone using motu input
Run Cuemix software on your PC. Go to the Inputs page. Assuming the mic is in the first input jack, unmute input 1, and turn up the fader. Go to the Outputs page. Repeat those settings.

Also turn up the Master fader (ie, the one farthest to the right. Note that it may be off-screen, in which case you need to scroll it into view or maximize the window).

By default, that output mix, or "buss" as MOTU calls them, is routed to the Main outs. So if you have an amp/speakers attached to the MOTU's main out, you should hear the mic.

Turn up the reverb send knob (for the mic) on the Inputs page. Turn up the "reverb return" knob (above the master fader) on the Outputs page. Hopefully, you're hearing reverb.
Using Cubase 5 as master control sound and including recording
Run the "MOTU Console" and look for a setting called "Return Assign". Set it to "Main Out 1 - 2". Set the "Phones Assign" to "Phones".

Run Cubase and set its input (recording) device to "Stereo Return 1 - 2". Do not set its playback device to "Main out 1 - 2" or this will interfere with your karaoke program. Instead set it to "Phones" so that you can play back the recording via the headphone jack.

Hi Jef

thanks for reply. One question
Run Cubase and set its input (recording) device to "Stereo Return 1 - 2". Do not set its playback device to "Main out 1 - 2" or this will interfere with your karaoke program. Instead set it to "Phones" so that you can play back the recording via the headphone jack.
Are you refering this in VST connection seting in cubase ?
