I'm having a problem using C ockos' R eaper with my MOTU. When I press 'play' after selecting my MOTU as the ASIO device, the MOTU seems to crash and spits out noise (BWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE rather than SSSSS, phonetically). The only way to stop this noise is to turn the unit off, after which the system won't recognise it until the entire system is restarted.
I tried the hardware in a friend's machine with the same result, though he also has an installation of Cubase which seems to work fine. I've tried different versions of Reaper (some of which give different errors, such as just hanging on device selection, or not playing at all), but none seem to work nicely.
I'm wondering if there's a particular driver which is considered more stable than the latest set from MOTU - I see on Reaper's forum that there are users using their Ultralite with Reaper without any issues at all.
Like many people on this board, i've opened a TechLink, but from what I can see I don't expect MOTU to provide any useful assistance.
Some quick surfing of this board showed that there are perhaps some third party drivers available for use with the MOTU? I couldn't find a link to the installation binary though.
System Stats:
MOTU Ultralite (MkI or II, I believe, can't find the hardware revision), latest firmware.
Fully patched Win7x64 install
Latest MOTU Firewire drivers (64 bit, ofc)
Reaper 3.75 and 4.0 (Beta, several versions), both x32 and x64
MOTU is connected via firewire, bus-powered after I lost the power adapter (

ASUS P5n-e32 SLI Plus motherboard, using onboard firewire port.
TL:DR; My MOTU seems to be unstable with Reaper on more than one system. What driver/system configurations (short of full system reinstalls) can I use in order to maximise stability? Also, are there any hardware diagnostic tools available to check if my hardware is on its way out?
Thanks.
EDIT: Quaint censoring on this board.
