HELP! 2408 MK2 with PCI-424 set up

Post by chazday »

Hello everyone..

I just installed the Motu 2408 Mk2 interface and PCI 424 card on my Mac OSX. I have two pressing questions that have left me stumped...

1. When I talk into the mic, I can see signal levels in CueMix and the Audio Monitor in DP7, but I can't hear any audio from outputs on the interface(headphones, main outs etc.)

2. Even though I "MUTE" channels in CueMix, I'm still seeing a signal in DP? I thought DP is being fed by CueMix?

I've set all my in and outs to the PCI-424 card, I've turned on Audio Patch thru to "Auto", I've selected "Direct hardware playthru", I've enabled "Analog" In's and out's for Bank A (pci 424 card). And all the good stuff. But I can't hear anything back?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there,

Cuemix and DP operate totally separate from one another. Cuemix basically monitors the inputs into your system so that you can listen to these inputs without latency. I suggest that you focus on one issue at the time. Forget Cuemix for now. There seems to be a routing issue that you have overlooked. In DP, create and record enable an audio track, select the input that is connected to your interface, select Main Out as your output and make sure that your fader is up in DP's mixing board for that track (a common reason for no audio). Monitor the signal in your audio monitor window to make sure you get a signal into the system. Double check your hardware setup settings to make sure that your interface is enabled and properly clocked (PCI 424, unless you have a larger setup). Monitor your Main outs of the 2408 by hooking them up to active speakers or a headphone amp. It should work.

Good luck! :D

@allemande

Thanks for responding.

Yes, it's for sure a routing issue. I've got all the hardware set to PCI-424. For clocking I've selected "internal." I can "SEE" the signal going in and coming out, but can't hear anything. :(

On the 2408 mk2 interface, the headphones jack and main outs are coming from "analog 1-2". So, if I have my MAC hardware outputs set to "analog 1-2", shouldn't I be able to hear something thru my headphones without even opening DP?

Here is some more information for you to check:
- Analog out 1-2 may not be the same as Main Out. If you have the choice of selecting Main Out as your output, try that.

- Open MOTU PCI Audio setup and learn how to configure your 2408. Make sure your outputs are enabled (check boxes are checked), that you have chosen the right type of output (you can choose between Analog, ADAT, and TDIF- choose Analog), and that your default output is selected as 1-2.

- Open DP to check your system. The Mac selects the default output as defined above but on my system that's buggy. Again, just focus on getting the audio to work within DP.

Good luck!

"Main outs" does not show up as an option, only "Analog 1-2"

I've double checked, triple checked (and more) ALL my settings in MOTU PCI Audio setup making sure outputs are Analog enabled on BANK A, DP software, Sound (in MAC preferences). I've RECHECKED them again according to your suggestions. And still nothing.

I've even uninstalled and reinstalled drivers several times, checked my firewire connections, switched firewire ports, etc......The signal is just not getting routed to the outputs for some reason.

I've been troubleshooting this since Friday. Pretty discouraged at this point.

Sorry to hear that you still don't get any audio. The Audio wire (firewire from the 2408 to the PCI card) has to be in the port closest to the center of the card, but I don't think that this is the source of your problem. Not sitting in front of your system limits my ideas. I would actually connect either a tape recorder or a headphone amp or a set of active speakers to your Analog 1-2 out of the interface to see if you get a signal. I'm not sure how you're hooking up your phones- probably to the headphone out on the interface, and that should work, but double check by hooking up something to analog 1-2 out. This may be my last advice, unless I can think of anything else.

If no luck with my suggestion, try contacting Magic Dave at MOTU (magicd@motu.com). He's helped me a couple of times.

Good luck!!

WORKING!!

You know what the problem was? The 2408 MK2 analog outputs on the actual interface! Non of them worked! I switched out the interface and...bam! Winning...duh! :D

Turns out I had everything set up and dialed correctly all along.

@allemande Hey thanks for all the help!

Hi guys!

I hope you still live! =)

I do have the same problem, and I wonder what that fix was...
"switched out the interface"???

You sended it to MOTU?

On my the green leds are flickering saying there is music on Analog 1 and 2. But it is very quiet in these headphones...

Please, any advice is appreciated.

Hi larsahlstrom,
Sorry to hear that you are having problems. As you can see in the previous posts, a lot of issues were covered and don't need to be repeated. Since the other guy in this discussion discovered that his interface was defective I suggest that you route the signal to all outputs (I guess one stereo pair at a time) to see if your interface is working. I never had a defective interface in over 15 years of using Motu gear but it is possible.

Just trace the signal all the way from input to output of your chain to make sure that nothing is muted, no fader is down, and that the outputs are enabled.

Good luck.

Hans
