828 mk2 USB buffer size 128 samples not working.

I have an 828 mkII USB and am using Win XP. If I set the buffer size to 128 samples, I get no audio from my DAW. I start playback and no audio is heard, no meters move, the playback cursor is running. I am using Steinberg Nuendo 3.
If I try to use the Motu Wave driver with the same 128 buffer setting, playing back an mp3 in Winamp for example, the same error occurs, no audio is output.
If I set the buffer size to 256 or higher, the device works correctly, audio is played back from the DAW.
MOTU audio console reports the device to have a hardware version of 1.01.

This same error occurs with all of these drivers that I have tried:

I have tried to connect the device to all of my laptop's USB ports, the error was still the same.
I have tried resetting the drive to factory settings as per the manual, the error still the same.
I have previously owned an 828 mkII firewire device, that worked with 96 and 128 sample buffer settings with these drivers on the same computer, with the same setup, OS, etc.

1. Is the 128 sample buffer setting supported on the Motu 828 mk2 USB?
2. If it is, what can be causing my device's error?
3. Is any lower setting (96?) possible with this device? (96 is not an option in the audio console).
4. Is there any difference between the USB/firewire version of the 828 mkII, regarding supported buffer sizes?


Does anyone else have this? Any remedies?

Can anyone use the 128 buffer setting with the mk2 USB? (I'm trying on 44.1 khz...)
