DP and OSX Time Machine
Any thoughts on having this as a backup strategy?
Is this working for anyone?
Thanks!

Re: DP and OSX Time Machine
I'm not sure what you're asking - Time Machine is great for backups. I'm confident enough with it that I don't feel the need to create separate backups of my DP project files. If something goes wrong or becomes corrupted, I can grab an older version of the file from Time Machine.

I use it, but as you're probably aware, eventually it gets to the point where the TM disk gets full and begins deleting the earliest backups.rimskykorsakov2002 wrote:Any thoughts on having this as a backup strategy?

I back up generally to 2 drives. Both external. That means I have the original project on 1 drive, a backup on Time Machine, and 2 backups on the external drives.
I've been severely burned before, so I'm pretty careful.
Also, some recommend an online storage site or, at least, have one of the backup drives off site.

Thanks very much.
2 backup-drives; 1 Time-Machine and the other straight backup, sounds like the way to go.

Re: DP and OSX Time Machine
I have 4 internal drives in my Mac..... but I have set TM to only back up my system drive and my current project(s)... so it is working away in the background and I never have to worry. Once I have completed a project I move it to a different drive and back it up the old way (usually to 2 locations)
I can then clean all the incremental backups of those completed projects from the Time Machine drive, freeing up space for current projects, unless there is a reason to keep all those saves....
Seems to work fine, and never seems to interrupt my work in DP. TM has saved me on several occasions.... especially when I had a complete system drive failure on both my MacBook Pro and my Mac Pro.
Cheers
Stephen

Re: DP and OSX Time Machine
I use TM to backup to an external 1.5TB hard drive and it works great. I have only had to rescue a file once and it was very easy to do.

+1 on Time Machine. Has always been smooth with my DP projects.

And, more: monthly backup in a different location!

Re: DP and OSX Time Machine
If you're concerned about your TM disk filling up, here's my strategy. When it gets close to full, change to a new backup disk (1 or 2 TB usually does it and they're not all that expensive. ) Store the "old" disk away and you've got a boatload of backup in a very small space. I usually just replace the disks in the enclosure and store the previous disk in a draw packed in bubble wrap or something like that.
