Plug-in HW/SW Compatibilities

Post by jumpin »

After upgrading my PPC Mac to a Power Mac,
I'm a little confused about plug-in formats and compatibility(s).

My hardware does/will consist of MOTU PCIe-424 and a couple of 2408's
and an M-Audio Project Mix I/O. I've used Digital Performer 5.13
for quite a while but have Protools 9 on order.

I installed Digital Performer 5.13 on my Mac Pro Dual 2.66 (OSX 10.6.6) without a
problem and it seems to be running fine. However, I am unable to install my
old Native Waves (4.1) plug-ins. There isn't much info on these old plugs but
I'm guessing they aren't going to work on the new machine with DP 5.13 and
for sure not on Protools 9.

I'd like to get some plug-in's now that will work on this Mac and this mix of
DAW hardware with Protools 9 and Digital Performer 5.13. I'm guessing that
this might not be possible (Protools 9 and DP 5.13) but would like to know for sure.

Failing that, I'd probably keep DP 5.13 and the working plug-ins on the old PPC Mac
and look for some plugins for the new Mac Pro with the above set of hardware and
Protools 9.

I'm not even sure if any plugins that will work with Protools 9 will work with
the hardware I have (since it's the M-Audio Project Mix and MOTU PCIe-424 based stuff)
but would like to know if any will.

I'm confused about how hardware dependent plug-ins are these days. Would RTS's work
on my hardware setup since they are supposed to be harware independent?

Any knowledge or advice about plug-ins that might work for me with this setup
would be appreciated. I really need good (as good as can be accomplished with plug-ins anyway)
EQ, Compressor, and Mastering Limiter.

Thanks for reading this far,

Jon

Waves will need to be upgraded via WUP. You might want to try DP7 too.

Amazed that 5.13 is working on snow leopard.....
