Like any law, it's only illegal if you get caught. OTOH, finding an upcoming filmmaker who wants a demo scored might be an option and perhaps lead to a collaboration? Probably no big names onscreen, but cleared permissions can be useful and it may lead to networking - which is ultimately, after all, how one gets work.
