ADR Tips?

Hi Phil,

It's best to use motionjpeg or fotojpeg including the audio. They are easy on the cpu and definitly always frame accurate. 90 min video should be around 6 to 7 GB.

Make sure to get Picture Lock before you go in and start editing. I found out about this the hard way a few years ago. After 6 months of editing I had sent a first draft of a mix to show the "Post Supervisor" while he turned around and said, "Why doesn't this sync?". Well they had cut a few frames here and there and re-cut an entire scene.

Hi Phil,

one more thing, or maybe two.
If you get your video via DVD. Convert it using mpeg streamclip and make sure to repair all timecode errors without dropping any frames. If there is no timecode burned into the picture use a little free tool called "QT sync" to creat one. Save it as a reference movie. There is no need to bounce a complete new QT movie file.

Tried to download the demo. But the stand alone (that's supposed to work with DP) required Rosetta (= not native or even universal for intel) and the AU version is only tested in Logic, and in my very brief test I couldn't get it to work in DP (anyone tried?)

I'm not very inclined to buy software that hasn't been updated for how many years?

Anyone using VocAlign on an Intel machine with Snow Leopard and the latest DP?

I must be losing it...I thought VocAlign came with DP when I got into DP 3 years ago. Not the case?

Anyway, it works great for me on latest OS X and DP.

No, DP3 introduced the built in support for the VocAlign application, thus not having to manually export files to and back from VocAlign. But the stand alone version of VocAlign haven't been updated in years and is all PowerPC code, thus needing Rosetta to run on an Intel Mac (version 2.9.3). There's a version 3.03 that's only available as an AU plug-in that's officially only supported for Logic it seems. And there's version 4 for PT TDM (or RTAS).
I'm not gonna pay $200 or what it is for an app that's not even current with 4-5 year old hardware. That's bollocks. (unless the AU version works fine in DP?)

Sorry for the mind blank, brother. I can't believe that I forgot I purchased it separate from DP. I think I got it so quickly after getting DP I forgot that I bought it separately, because it was such a great product!

Anyway, the standalone continues to work great for me, and I already had Rosetta going on my machine for some other software, so no problems here. It's a great little app that I get a lot of use out of.

I would probably not mind the Rosetta thing if I already owned the software. But buying new (to me) software that isn't natively supporting hardware that's been around for 5 years just doesn't feel right. Maybe I'll email SynchroArts and see what they have to say about it.
