Ensemble and 828 MKI
I bought an Apogee Ensemble several months ago to replace my fully functional yet aging MOTU 828 MKI. Now I am toying with the idea of using more outboard compressors and EQs and stuff. Is it possible to run these together with Adat/lightpipe? Maybe as an aggregate device? Would I be better off with a newer dveice into the Ensemble?

Re: Ensemble and 828 MKI
You mean, using the 828 only for it's ADAT in/outs?
Then I don't think a newer interface will matter at all.

Yes. The 828 for the Adat I/O into the Ensemble into My Macpro via firewire.
Do I go Ensemble adat out to the 828?

Re: Ensemble and 828 MKI
Since it's an 828mkI, so no Cuemix software, I'd say to run the 828 adat into the ensemble so that you can use the Maestro mixer software, assuming you can include the 828 inputs and outputs, as well.
If it were an 828mkII or later, and could run Cuemix, running the Ensemble into the 828 would probably make it a wash, especially if you are using DP.

Re: Ensemble and 828 MKI
Reviving an old thread. I have not been able to get this to work. Not sure how to even trouble shoot. I have tried sending in both directions, no luck. Anyone able to give me a step by step?
Re: Ensemble and 828 MKI
My setup isn't exactly the same, but after some playing around, I found this works...
Saffire Pro 40 set to route the 8 ins to ADAT (clocked on ADAT) - hopefully the Ensemble can do the same thing.
Optical connects between Pro40 and 828 original (one each way)
MOTU Audio Setup has optical input set to ADAT.
[Edit: MOTU Audio Setup has optical output set to ADAT as well... /me face palms self ]
With this setup, Logic sees the 8 channels of analogue, 8 channels of ADAT + SPDIF.
I hope this helps
