Hi mhschmieder,
Thanks for the extra info..but this isn't confusing.I actually did this crossgrade from Emulator X2 to Mach Five 2.A simple pdf is all I sent in,I don't recall if it showed a serial number of my Emu manual, but nonetheless it worked and they shipped it fast. The Motu support is very helpful as well.I would suggest potential customers who meet the upgrade/crossgrade option to contact Magic Dave @ Motu,he's very quick to respond. sales@motu.com

Hoping to hear soon from Motu regarding the upgrade pricing. Again for new users,if you buy Mach Five v2 in the next two weeks, you'll get Mach Five v3 for free, that's a nice gift I think! So I wonder what previous Mach Five 2 owners will have to pay? If anyone gets the details, post them here..thanks

I ordered the Mach Five V2 competitive upgrade from Guitar Center tonight, and sent an email to sales@motu.com regarding the five eligible products I own and the expected delivery date that will probably be just past the window of time for the free V3 update.
I don't know how to snip a single page from a PDF document without owning a PDF Writer app (e.g. Acrobat Pro), so I guess I'll have to find time to Google the subject tomorrow, unless someone knows how to do this.
I sure hope I don't get caught up in some procedural nonsense that disqualifies the free V3 update, but I have always had good luck with MOTU -- though I have generally used the telephone vs. email, so am slightly more nervous this time due to the email suggestion.
I got an immediate response from Magic Dave (Roberts), so all is good.
As for Version 3, I'm guessing it's an entirely new set of content that completely replaces the content in Version 2.
Also, I have high hopes that this update, and the recent update to Ethno, means a new Symphonic Instrument is coming soon. I sold mine long ago after getting VSL, but was overly optimistic that good sources of historic instruments would show up quickly. I would love it if MOTU released a Symphonic Instrument 2 that included even more Baroque and Renaissance instruments. The few that are out there are mostly 80's-era low-resolution single-velocity.

Open the PDF in Preview and then choose Print (command-P)
Select the print range from "1 to 1" (or whatever the page happens to be)
Hah; good old recursion at work -- I figured that would produce the same document all over again! Most likely though, I'm already done OR will need to mail a printout of the first page by mail (I'll know soon).
I went ahead and installed on the Mach Five 2 content last night, even though it appears it is being 100% replaced in version 3(?).
Disc Two gave me trouble, but on the fifth try it got all the way through. It was totally scratched up, even though it was firmly secured in its socket inside the package. Bizarre.
registration went without a hitch, and the product works fine.
I did try some Ethno patches in Mach Five, but decided I prefer the Ethno interface for those patches as well as what seems to be a faster loading time (and immediate/direct access to the patches vs. having to load the monolith via the file browser in Mach Five first).
It will be interesting to see if things like Ethno load differently in Mach FIve version 3, given the direction that "mother ship" products like Kontakt and Atmosphere (as well as PLAY) have gone in, regarding the virtual absorption of the GUI's of subsidiary libraries/products.
