Confused about Model # of best used 8 core Mac to buy

Post by toodamnhip »

I have decided that instead of buying the new 12 core Mac, I will purchase the BEST used 8 core Nehelam, 2009 model.
But the way the terms float around has confused me somewhat,
Some call it dual Quad, some a "Quad", some "8 core", Xeon, Nehalem..etc...

In order for me to do an e bay and craigs list search, what is the EXACT name of the FASTEST used 8 core Mac that came out just before the 12 core Macs?
The exact model # or name and year please. I would suppose the year to be 2009.

Thanks for your help...:)

Find and install freeware: Mactracker. It lists model numbers.

This site might help:

http://www.everymac.com

If I recall correctly, the 2009 8-core Nehalem stock model came with 2.26 GHz processors. This is the model I picked up right after the 2010 models were announced last summer.

In 'About This Mac', Apple calls it: "2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon"

Optional higher-speed processor upgrades were offered on this model; everymac.com explains this kind of stuff really well.

You might find some useful information here:
http://www.primatelabs.ca/geekbench/mac-benchmarks/
The one you're referring to seems to be the "Mac Pro (Early 2009)
Intel Xeon X5570 2.93 GHz (8 cores)", which comes third in the list.
Hope it helps.
