Auto Creating 'New Takes" in MIDI Cycle record?
I posted this on the tips board but maybe troubleshooting would yield a response.
I'd like to be able to cycle record MIDI and have DP create a new take for each cycle. For the life of me I've scoured the manuals and it suggests this is possible on P39, "you can record successive takes when cycling" but I've found this only possible with audio, not MIDI tracks. I must be missing something very simple. I do not want to OD while cycling, but want to create new ideas without having to stop and select (or quickkey) a new track.
Thanks for any help in advance

Hi,
You can do this with MIDI tracks in exactly the same way as audio tracks, I'm guessing your in the Sequence tab, just change the track size to large in the track settings and you will see the take drop down menu under the insert, or go to the tracks tab and you will see the take column after output.
Hope this helps.

I'd love to see a video of you doing this. I didn't know this was possible in DP. Have you actually done this before?stevenew wrote:You can do this with MIDI tracks in exactly the same way as audio tracks...
If I try it, it adds to what is already recorded on the same take.

Hi,
Sorry, I didn't read the 'Auto' in the subject, you do have to select new take from the drop down before playing your next take, but is that not the case with Audio as well? I have only been using DP a month, so I guess I'm bit too eager!

Re: Auto Creating 'New Takes" in MIDI Cycle record?
It is my understanding that you can't do that...
The is a "new take key" command though. It can also easily be assigned to any MIDI key on your MIDI keyboard if you don't want to leave the keyboard while you're inspired.
I also never undertood why the overdub function does not react the same way on Audio & MIDI tracks.

Re: Auto Creating 'New Takes" in MIDI Cycle record?
Assigning to keys seems the best way to overcome this shortcoming. I suppose I'd have to assign 2 keys, one New Take and one Record. Maybe someone from MOTU would chime in and tell us why this might be more difficult to implement than it appears. Or maybe it can be included on a want list. It would be nice to know either way.
Sometimes I get into a groove or fine a strange and beautiful chord and I just don't want to let it go because it might never be found again.
I know some other programs can do it....
Thanks everybody....MOTU???

Polar. It's one of the least talked-about features of DP on this entire forum.
