It's always a good time, bummed I'll be missing it. In honor of the great effort Jim & James put into this every year, I'll be tossing back a couple margaritas that night

Some personal notes for those who've never been, and these are strictly my personal thoughts, not those of the organizers or MOTU's...

1. Major gripes or complaints are best left on the NAMM show floor. In fact I always tried to leave most shop talk at the show. I always found it boring talking about buffer size and aggregate devices while eating fajitas, and extremely difficult after a couple margi's.

2. Don't talk smack about The Patriots.

3. Don't complain about how chilly it is outside (strictly for native Californians)

Like I said, just my thoughts. Have fun guys & gals!
Steve

Another point: BRING CASH. We can't have a zillion separate checks. Especially if you plan on having sine of the margaritas that we have served by the pitcher. So make sure to hit an ATM so that you can give Jim enough to cover your meal, drinks, about 5 bucks extra toward covering our guests from MOTU and then your portion of the tip. Then Jim will pay the bill with his card.

Maybe some of us who can't attend could donate some cash. Got any way for us to do that?

Just send it directly to MOTU's offices.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

Hi Everybody!

I just wanted to say it looks like we're going to have another great dinner. Some very cool folks are coming from various parts of the world, and I've got a nice little diversion planned (patting myself on the back now!).

Like Steve posted earlier, we generally don't do too much 'shop talk'; but I can tell you the MOTU guys love what they do, and sometimes they like to talk shop! And for sure, don't talk smack about the Pats OR especially THE SOX! :-)

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Cheers,
Jim

Coolness! I would add about the "shop talk" element: it hasn't happened much that I can recall, but I will emphasize that the MOTU guys are "off the clock"-- so please do not try and use this occasion to bend their ear over some sort of bug or pet peeve you have about DP or MOTU. By the time of the dinner, these poor guys have had a long day on the show floor and they're just looking to chill like the rest of us would.

I've been torn up about this, but I live just far enough away from Anaheim that it's not feasible for me to get to the NAMM dinner on Friday. It's, like, a 2.5 hour drive during rush hour one-way. $100-200 for a room somewhere in between for the night? Dunno.

I'd rather donate the cost of a room to the MOTU-NAMM dinner fund.

I'll peek in at the MOTU booth on Saturday..... WARNING-- I'm 6'2" and not a halfling!!
