I need to get my firewire ports fixed on my 828 mkII. Is this something I can do myself? ie do I just replace the firewire ports themselves? I'm quite handy with a soldering iron.
I know this is a common problem judging by the number of posts on the forum here so thought I might give it a go.
Any help gratefully received.

Re: Repairing a MOTU 828 MKII
I suppose what I want to know is are there usually other components which need to be replaced when the firewire connectors are fixed i.e. chips etc
My 828 is out of warranty so I don't want to spend fortune when it could be a simple-ish repair.
Anyone know? Cheers Damon

Re: Repairing a MOTU 828 MKII
Visual inspection can often reveal burned components. I haven't had the need to open my mkII, so can't offer any real insights. I have heard MOTU has a generous repair/replacement policy... you might try contacting them.
