What's wrong with MX4?
Wow. This forum is ON FIRE!
.....35 posts total since it began. What's up? Does this VI just suck. What accounts for MX4's massive unpopularity?

Hi!
Sorry I can't say anything about the audio ins of the MX4 because I haven't used them, yet. I'm only interested in acoustic instruments and synthesizers
not effects for now.
I really love the MX4. No matter how I program, the sound it makes has depth. It is a synthesizer that can make music by just itself without any effects or any other instrument. I really love it, and can't wait for the version 2.

........ what he said.
I'll give the audio inputs a try today if I get time (just got Reason 3.0 so I'm exploring a bit).
I really wish MOTU could find a way to make a demo available. I bought it sight unseen (or heard), but that's not for everyone.

Re: What's wrong with MX4?
Well I'm reserving judgment, but so far (one day) I've yet to make anything that sounds good come out of MX4. Complex, weird, unique, just nothing I like. ...not an uncommon reaction from reading other posts. Hopefully, as others have, I'll warm up to *it* (because nothing "warm" is ever going to come out of MX4 I don't think).

Re: What's wrong with MX4?
Hello,
The same thing happened to me the first few days. I started reading the manual to get used to how it functions. The thing that got me some new sounds was to pick a preset; then randomize it (hold the ctrl key down anywhere on its surface and pick one of the randomize options). If it ends up being a dud, I just pick another preset and start randomizing again.
I still have to learn how to save my own presets. I think it might be too easy to overwrite the presets if you are not careful.
To get new sounds, I try changing the waveforms on the occilators and playing with the filter controls. There is a lot to learn.
Could we use this forum to share approaches as to how to generate new sounds easily? What is the easiest way to manipulate sounds with just a few steps? Is there a way to attach some of our mp3 or AAC samples to this forum?
I am hoping that MOTU will add some good presets to the version 2 upgrade? Any word about it shipping?

Re: What's wrong with MX4?
Thanks for the tips. I'll stay at it. MX4 2 should stir the pot a bit too. "Hundreds of new presets" are on the way.

Re: What's wrong with MX4?
I've been looking at soft synths /samplers. The only thing that makes me not want to purchase MX or Mach 5, is the lack of requirements, preset instruments.
I may be a newb at the whole soft synth/sampler stuff, but IMo MOTU needs to open the door a little if they want to be in the market I mean its hard enought to try and figure out what its capable of.
I could'nt even find any system requirements for MX4 at all!!

Re: What's wrong with MX4?
They ought to offer downloadable demos of these apps. Don't know about everyone else, but I'm becoming more and more hesitant to buy without test driving.

Me too!Originally posted by chrispick:

I doubt MOTU did it on purpose, but in my case a demo would have *prevented* me from buying MX4. As stated above my first impression is not so good. ...Mach5 however, I can wholeheartedly recommend. Especially if you use DP.

I don't know about MX4 because I haven't yet decided to buy it, but MachFive does come with a bunch of samples (it is BTW, a true software sampler) and can import just about any sample format out there.Originally posted by Tonio:

Re: What's wrong with MX4?
Can you tell me if MX4 needs an iLok dongle as does Mach5 or just a serial number to work?
(I hate dongles - my message is to say)
