Having plug-in issues....please help!!!

Post by Guitarist4u36 »

Hey everyone.
I'm not sure if this belongs in this section of the forum or not, but I wasn't sure where to go with this.
First let me say that I'm a total newbie to the whole Computer Daw concept. All my work in the past was on a Roland 2480. I will also admit that my problem was likely due to operator error...lol

setup:

I have an intel Mac running Snow leopard. Being new to the DAW setup, I have experimented with various software types. One being reaper, one being studio one from presonus, and then Digital performer 7.0 ( I had heard it was good on a mac and I'm using a motu 8pre as my interphase anyway). I like DP7 really well.

Here's my problem:
I hadn't been in my studio for awhile due to work, so when I did get back on I needed to do updates. I did the ones for Studio one and DP7 without a hitch. BUT, while I was updating DP7, I noticed what I thought was also an update to Motu's Masterworks Collection plug-ins..me thinking that is part of DP7 of course....so I did the update. Well, it was't an update...it was an installation for people who are not running DP7 to purchase the plug-in collection separately.

Now, whenever I try to start up Studio one, the Masterworks collection box pops up during the plugin loading screen.....wanting me to license their plug-ins....which I can't because I did not purchase them. I don't need to purchase them anyway because they're part of DP7. So, when I cancel their box out, it closes Studio One too. I have tried to find where the download went to on my mac so to delete the app, but Im not having any luck finding it and it's not showing up under the apps area. I'm kinda new to a mac too in a lot of ways, so I might be missing something there too.

Can someone give me suggestions on how I can fix this?? I'm gonna ask over in the presonus forum too, to see if they can help. I'm pulling my hair out!

Thanks everyone and have a GREAT New Year!!

Dude-- happy new year to you and yours, for a take off!!

Yes, the MW collection update was not something you should have installed. It is an update to a separately purchased bundle. You don't *need* that if you have DP because DP includes those plugins. If you wanted to run those same plugins as Audio Units instead of DP's native MAS format, then buying the MasterWorks bundle would be the way to go.

I don't have the separate MW Collection, but if there is no *uninstaller* included with the MW Collection update....

Go to Library> Audio> Components and remove all things related to the MW Collection.

Go to Library> Audio> VST to check for the same items in those folders. Toss those into the trash as well.

It may be necessary to uninstall and reinstall DP itself to get back to some state of "normalcy", but before doing that, just restart the computer and check things out on all of your platforms to see that they're working properly.

Report back in if problems.

Thanks Frodo for your reply. I really appreciate the help!!

I tried that but unfortunately, it didn't work. I went as far as putting all things related (that I saw anyway) into the trash...including DP7...but I never emptied the trash. I thought I'd try that first. Restarted...but no luck. The MW Collection box still pops up. I guess I could empty the trash but then I would have to reinstall DP7...which if I have to, I will. I was just trying to avoid going there if possible...especially if removing it doesn't work...lol.

Any other ideas? Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

The first thing is getting rid of all the MW Collection files.

If you still have the MW Collection app icon, Option-Click on it and choose Show Package Contents. Dump all of that into the Trash.

Then, look for the individual plugins in the Finder. You'll want to keep your '.bundle' versions of them. Those are the native MAS plugins. You'll want to dump the AU versions (ie: 'component files) and all of the VST files. These will be in the main hard drive under Library>Audio>Plugins>Components or Library>Audio>Plugins>VST

If there is a plist file in the User Library> Preferences folder somewhere, delete that as well.

Question-- is there an uninstaller included with the MW Collection?

FYI:
I got in touch with Motu tech support today, and finally found to culprit hidden in the library in various locations under various names. Long story short, I got the problem fixed. :woohoo: Thanks Frodo for your help.

Hey, this is years after the fact, but I would also love to know what else needed to be removed from the Library to have Masterworks plugins work again.
Thanks
