2408mk3 dropouts

Post by ozthrasher »

gday friends, great forum cheers james.

I have a 2408mk3 with pci-e 424 running on a i7 8gb ram 4tb hdd win7 pc with cubase 5.
It's hooked up via 3 tdif cables to a Tascam dm24 with v3.0 software.
The dm24 is the master @ 48k. Boot Order is: PC first, then 2408 box when drivers loaded then dm24, then cubase.

all drivers are the latest including PC drivers, bios flashes etc..
2408 driver is the latest one 1.6.9.5

I love the setup but have a very annoying problem that someone might be able to shed some light on for me:

Randomly during playback (not recording) the motu cuts out as in plays no audio on any channel for no logner than 2 seconds and then comes back in. It's in random places and it's only during playback.

What ive done to troubleshoot is the following:
Changed all cables (BNC, TDIF etc...)
Set the 2408 to be master
Changed the sample rate 41k and tried all the sample rates.
Not used cubase (just useed windows playback)
Disabled all windows audio devices (recording and playback)
Unistalling and reinstalling the motu drivers and pci-e card.
Checked and Serviced the dm24
I sent motu a very detailed trouble ticket - no response yet (4 Weeks)

-All produce an identical response

Interstingly enough it didnt used to cut out it used to hiss in random places again only during playback, but that hasn't happened now for over 3 months and all that i get is the bloody cut-outs.

Anyone have any ideas as to what this may be?
There was one bloke on the tascam forums who had artifacts, hissing and crackles during playback and recoding with a similiar setup to mine. he found out it was loose soldering on the bnc connectors on the 2408 box. My 2408 is only a couple months old.

Cheers

Last Night I tried manually assigning IRQ addresses to ensure there was no conflict with other hardware.

Still the same Result.

I'm pretty sure the PCIe 424 and or the 2408mk3 box are faulty. Any ideas before I contact the distrubutor for warranty?

I've tried another PC (i5 4gb ram, 2tbhdd, win xp pro 32 bit) with the same results.

Ive also set the IRQ priorty for the MOTU to be highest via the registry as per a guide i found on this board

At first it worked great for 10 minutes then progressively got worse and worse.
