You will

1. first need to get the MOTU 828 MkIII working as the I/O for your computer. It connects via Firewire (the U shaped USB, not the flat one).

2. Then, download both the firmware(v 1.06), and the drivers (v. 4.0.4) for Windows off the MOTU website for Firewire devices. this will manage the sound into and out of the MOTU...

3. Make sure you disable the drivers to any sound card which is inside the PC - even motherboard mounted ones. "System/Hardware" in Windows 7 down near the bottom (Audio and Sound Devices) - select 'Disable'

4. Then, the Logitech sound will need to come out of your MOTU from then on, and not from the PC itself. So, presuming that the Logitech unit has a .8 TRS jack input - the Mini Jack - then you need to get a 1/4" to .8 inch TRS converter. You would come out of the front of the unit from the gold plated 1/4 hole called "Main"

But since this is a Logitech Surround Unit, I would imagine that it has three .8 jacks - which requires more complexity.

I only use the beige an black plugs. So the main one being the black I suppose, I would use that one?

Or would it be in my best interest to get 2 small studio monitors for better clarity?

Thanks man!

I have windows 7,64 bit. The interface already came with 1.06 firmware in it. i dont see the options you are talking about however and the headphones do not seem to be working either... this is becoming a troubling issue. I am also using cubase 5. and through that program made the asio driver from the motu the primary source. i also do not see the options that you are specifying as far as hardware and changing the drivers. im computer savy i just dont know too much about recording equipment.\ =[

Yeah man, if you can go get 2 reference monitor speakers that wouold be the bomb. If you have a 64 bit machine and a MOTU and CuBase you are on your way to some top notch gear. Why would you want to finish all that with a PC sound system? Sorta like buying a BMW 7 series and then using it to haul straw and lawn equipment around with.

Definitely go the final mile and get a set of powered reference monitors. You can run them out of either the Low-Z (big round three pin holes) or TRS Mains Outs out of the back of the MOTU unit.

But make sure you get the CueMix control module software loaded on your PC. It comes with the drivers off the MOTU website...gotta have that. That driver is the first one on the list of drivers and is called FireWire and USB Audio Driver Installer for Windows - once you get to the 828mkIII downloads section of their website.

Once you open up the CueMix software you will be able to route sound to the Main Outs of the MOTU and make it make noise.

BUT...also CuBase will do its own routing too once you are running it.

How much money?

The first thing you need to figure out is which 1/8" plug from the speaker system is connected to the front left and right speakers. If you don't already know which one it is, an easy way to figure this out would be to turn on the system, touch the end of each plug, and listen to which speaker makes a buzzing noise.

After you figure that out, you'll need a female 1/8" TRS-to-dual male 1/4" TS adapter. It's a Y adapter: The 1/8" plug from the speaker system will connect to the 1/8" jack on the adapter, and the two 1/4" plugs on the adapter will connect to two of the analog outputs on the 828mk3.

Then any audio that is routed to those 828mk3 outputs will play through the speaker system's front left and right speakers. If you want to work with surround audio, you could use additional adapters to connect other 828mk3 outputs to the speaker system's other inputs (rear left and right, center, and subwoofer).
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.
