All my projects have lost their connection to DP

Post by thesoundsmith »

Sorry, I've forgotten the terminology for this. I had a G5 PPC that wiped its system drive. All my audio and project data were on a separate drive, but I had to recover the files to a PC instead of a Mac.

Now I have a 3G Mac Pro Xeon box, everything is reinstalled and the data files transferred back from PC to the new Mac, but the project files aren't being recognized by DP. Apparently there is still a cross-platform issue in file storage. In the earlier days, MOTU had an app you ran to fix this, it changed the 4-character field somewhere in the resource fork and blessed the file.

How do we do that now? Is there a batch or drag-and-drop fixer still?

Thanks.

I don't think so. You screwed the pooch on this one by transferring Mac files to a Windows-formatted drive. Seriously, people should know better than this. Either a) transfer files via a properly formatted Mac drive, or b) create ZIP archives of your project folders before copying to a Windows-formatted drive. Then copy to the Mac drive and expand the archive.

Seriously, repeat after me: "Thou shalt not transfer files from one Mac to another via Windows-formatted media." :(

Didn't have a choice, the disk was only accessible via the Apple Installer disk, I was lucky to get that much back, at least I have saved the audio files. I have backups of the earlier stuff, but the last time this happened (way pre-OSX days ) the fix was cumbersome but easy. You changed the resource fork flag to MOTU or some such, and voila. There was a drag and drop file that just fixed it...

Well, I have Time Machine now, but I am SO tired of the incompatibility issues. They have had over 20 YEARS to fix it, so obviously both sides must profit from it... :deadhorse:

(thank you for including that smilie, I needed that...)
