What on Earth am I missing? 828mk3 + Pro Tools 9

Post by nightcruiser »

Hi peoples and peopettes,

Disclaimer: I have very little experience with both the 828mk3 and Pro Tools. I used to use Sonar and a MOTO 2408 with no problems at all.

But now I've got an 828 and PT9. I bought a new workstation (an HP z200 running Win7 64 bit) and installed the 828 software first. I can hear Windows audio through the 828 without a problem, so I know that part's working.

But when I installed Pro Tools 9, I can't hear anything at all from it. When I play a track, I can see the meters within Pro Tools showing sound, but nothing is happening in CueMix, and the meters on the 828 aren't moving. Is there some simple step somewhere that I missed, and, more importantly, is there any documentation specifically on getting the 828 to work with PT9?

Thanks very much :)

Haven't used PT but every other audio software I have used have some sort of 'setting' 'preferences' or some such where you choose what audio interface/driver to use. Have you looked around in PT? Should be in the manual too...

In Pro Tools, open the Playback Engine dialog and choose the MOTU Audio ASIO driver.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

Not sure if you're using mac or pc but the first thing you want to do in Pro Tools is make sure that you've selected the correct driver under setup menu/playback engine at the very top of the dialog box. Once that's done you will have to check your tracks output and if you want them to default to a certain output pair, go to your motu audio setup window [or from within Pro Tools you can go to setup menu/hardware to launch the motu audio setup window]and configure your default settings.

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for all the replies. I really appreciate them. I did have the MOTU interface selected in PT. So what I did was to unplug the 828 from the computer, do factory default reset on the 828, and plug it back in. After that, PT seemed happier and I can hear audio through the 828 now :)

Thanks again!
