Help Please!! Motu 8pre firewire not responding

Post by jaynian »

Hi

I've had my inteface for about 3 years or more and its been working fine then i moved my studio for a weekend- to do some recording elsewhere, which ive done several times before and now when ive put it back together at my home studio its not working. it powers up, the lights go on but then it settles on convertor light, even though im plugged in through firewire through to the imac. The Imac isnt seeing it at all. I got a horrible feeling its goosed, can anyone help?

Ive reinstalled the drivers, not done a firmware update yet but if i cant even get the machine to be seen then it seems pointless when its been working before.

Hope you can help me

Try a different FW cable? The 828 has a reset to factory defaults, but I couldn't find anything like that looking through the 8Pre user guide.

Is your firewire bus working? I had this issue - a bad FW hub would shut down the bus on my G5 and re-booting did not bring it back. I found the problem by firing up TechTool and seeing that the FW bus was showing zero.

Disconnecting the hub and resetting the PRAM restored the bus.

Replacing the hub made the problem stay away.

Sean, what gear are you using? Computer, specs? It helps everyone else help you remedy your problem.

I have the 8Pre and 828mkII, and when I got my MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard, the 828 didn't show up in MOTU Audio Setup. The 8Pre does, so that's my workaround. I had a techlink open with MOTU with no real help from it. They closed it about 3 months ago with no resolution to my problem.

Like I said, I've got a workaround but it's not the way I want to set up my rig.

hi, i'm using a macbook pro with 2gb core duo with 2gb memory. i've done a total format and install of snow leopard 10.6.3. i've just connected an ipod photo which is firewire compatable, it charges but doesn't appear on itunes or mac finder. so i presume it is a firewire os x problem in itself. anybody had the problem and fixed it? sean
