2 months + STILL NO TIGER FOR RTAS!

Post by Bigworld »

This is a joke! It is stifling my work flow. EVERYTHING else works no problem. Very irksome! Starting to examine other possibilities.....

Come on.... SDTALK Machfive does not work properly on TIGER and PROTOOLS...
It sounds but it does NOT display any letters or values PERIOD

I have G4, G5 and Powerbook with Tiger and its update an none of them work!

Just to let you know I have had all Apple computers models since Apple II , so thats more than 20+ years of experience! and Protools experience since they were making chips for Drum Machines !

DOUG is Absolutly , undeniable and 100% RIGHT!

So , are you confused?

Sorry that pisses you off so much, but frankly
I don't give a sh*t.
It DOES work fine for me and everything DOES
display JUST fine for me.
I am surprised considering how many
people have mentioned the display problems
in Tiger and Protools le, but that doesn't change the fact that
it works for me.
I will say the AU version of the most recent
version didn't display text properly In Rax for
awhile.
However after having reinstalled Tiger recently
that problem seems to be gone now as well.

Good for you, but frankly I still don't care.
Now are YOU confused?

I should mention that after re-installing
Tiger I optimized the directory with Disk Warrior
and defragmented the hard drive as well as
repairing permissions before reinstalling my
apps.
Of course I haven't owned and operated Macs since
1984, but it seemed to help.

Dear FDFALK:

How can you explain that even MOTU says that they have NOT release a RTAS/ HTDM version of Machfive and they will do it later this summer?

From MOTU machfive updates page:

[QUOTE] MachFive OSX 1.2.2 Public Beta
This update provides Tiger compatibility for the following plug-in formats: MAS, Audio Units (AU) and VST. This 1.22 public beta update is backward compatible with all versions of Mac OS X back to Jaguar (Version 10.2.x).

MachFive Tiger compatibility for RTAS and HTDM is expected to ship later this summer.

Attention Logic users: MachFive 1.22 public beta requires an update to Logic 7.1 for compatibility under Tiger OSX 10.4.x.

Unzip and double-click installer. Follow on-screen instructions. [QUOTE]

and the link so you can see it by yourself:

Okay I'll try this from the top..
Yes I'm well aware of what's on Motus
page regarding MachFive and compatibility
issues.
That didn't prevent me from trying it anyway
as my main sequencer is generally Digital
Performer.
I have Protools le mainly to keep up to date
with the interface and its' workings.
I was very surprised that MachFive appeared to
work with Le under Tiger.
I've worked on a few basic sessions with it and
so far all is well.
The text really does show up in the MachFive
interface.
I have seen what you're referring to in Rax as I
said, but it doesn't appear to be a problem in
either Rax or Protools after I reinstalled Tiger.
Im not sure why this pisses you off so much,
but whatever your problem is its not my fault.
Feel free to go stomp your feet and bellow some
more if you like.
However if you bellow at me, Ill bellow right
back.
Im not much in the mood to take bull sh*t.
Back to you..

Ohhh dear sdfalk:

You are really a retro guy!

You are at least one YEAR out of date

The version that you are showing DOES NOT HAVE STREAMING , it should between 1.0 and 1.08

That was a terrible era for MACHFIVE it is almost useless and worst with so little RAM!

Now I understand when you said that you didn't use to Protools to much!

OH MY GOD YAH GOT ME!!!
AHHHHHHH, I"M DYINg..
I NEVER at any time said it was the most recent version.
So what of it??
I didn't try to hide it, it works perfectly, no problems.
So F#$kin what.
Do you sit at home clapping your hands together going
hehe haha I'm right?
So just for a lark I installed the RTAS update and yah know what?
Inspite of not being able to see the parameters, the FU**IN thing
is rock solid stable.
If I need to adjust the parameters I'm fortunate enough with the
gift God gave me..EARS!!!!
Since I'm not lazy and actually remember what the parameters
represent, not seeing the little printing won't keep me up nights.
But since I'm feeling real retro I might just go back to the old
version.
After all I still listen to Miles Davis cause I'm soooo retro.
(Useless!!! WTF are you talking about, it works fine.)
Earlier version or not (and up until this morning 4gbs of ram)
or not, it works fine.
I'm getting work done regardless of version numbers, regardless
of visual bugs, and regardless of streaming.

Dear sdfalk:

Thanks a lot for admit the DISPLAY PROBLEM!

If you are using M5 just as a sampler player , you can live with this limitation ,

but if you like to tweak sounds , filters, octaves, voices, polyphony, envelopes and FX, you have to admit that you need EARS and EYES!

Let me give you an example try to rrase all the label out out of a ARP2600 and try just to use your golden ears, IT IS GOING to take you MORE TIME!

I love motu products, and the only purpose of this discusion is to make MOTU aware of the situation and our needs.

So stop defending something that is in your FACE (INCLUDIYING EYES AND EARS) and admit if you pay for a product , you need fast and efective support and updates!

...and by the way I love Miles too , I have a dual mayor degree in Music Production and Engineering form Berklee College of Music (1984) and I played and still playing his music A LOT!

Motu was a little company near Berklee , and I have the lucky oportunity to SEE and HEAR Performer beta 1 in a Fat MAc 512K at the school in David Mash's class and we were just amazed of how a VISUAL interface would help us CREATE MUSIC.

I DO NOT FEEL CONFORTABLE GOING TO THE DARK AGES!

Best Regards
P

Welcome to the world of software, how long did it take Digi to
release "effective product updates"
More often then not those effective porduct updates have there
own share of bugs and problems even after all there "testing".
In my own personal experience, when Motu has released
updates, I've run into far fewer problems then with any other
product I've purchased.
As long as I have a functioning product (And I am able able to
tweak samples in MachFive) then I can live with a delay.
As for "Returning to the Dark ages" fine, that's your opinion.
As for making a blanket statement like "the earlier version is
unusable", that's ridiculous.
I'd also add that MachFive is also a major upgrade not just
an "update".

...and by the way I love Miles too , I have a dual mayor degree in Music Production and Engineering form Berklee College of Music (1984) and I played and still playing his music A LOT!

Good for you..
You seem to have this need to mention your credentials at every
turn.
If it's to justify your points of view, then , whatever makes you happy.
Otherwise your not applying for a job, so why bother?
Do you get a library card while telling the librarian you
Have a dual mayor degree in Music Production and Engineering
as well as using Protools from the very beginning?
The only reason I got into this with you in the first place was
becasue of your condescending, arrogant initial post.

Oh and by the way:

I've used Protools since version 3, my first actual computer was
an Amiga 1000, I've studied (and played) music for over 25
years, I've also studied and worked at the Banff Centre for The
Arts, I'm going back to school in Vancouver to keep learning,
I'm a Gemini who likes hiking in the mountains, and still NONE
of this has anything to do with how well MachFive works with
Protools in whatever version number.
None of this will make Motu release an update any faster either.
