Google went further than a logo mod and made a Lennon flash vid. Pretty cool.

Also, there's "Double Fantasy: Stripped"-- the remixed 2-CD set. Also cool.

Thanks, John. You know, it really is going to be alright.

The stripped-down remix of Double Fantasy gets great reviews so I ordered it today. It also includes a remaster of the original mixes.

Apparently the other albums got a remastering but not a remix. Early reports indicate the difference is marked, but as I never felt the Lennon solo albums were sonically very good to begin with (compared to other solo Beatle efforts) -- with the exception of Imagine -- I'm hesitant to take the financial plunge (especially for the box).

It's cool what Google did. I was in my brother's office in Boston that day and we both discovered the Google birthday gift at the same time, when he went to their site to look up details of a concert we were attending. I can't imagine anyone I would have wanted to share that moment with more, as my brother is the first person I listened to each of Lennon's solo albums with, all those years ago.

I ended up getting Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, and Walls and Bridges. To me those are the ones that had the "cleanest crispest mixes" (oops I forgot Some Time in New York City.)

I'm listening to "Isolation" from POB right now. It really sounds amazing. Very present vocals, drums. Apparently this is the same team that did the 2009 Beatles Remasters.

e-loo!! Great to see you-- it's been a while.

W&B is next on my list (plus the Beatles' remastered Red and Blue re-issues).

Hmm. A friend of mine, Katie Lennon, lost her father, John, a few weeks ago. Not sure of the date.

Just listened to the "stripped" version of "Double Fantasy" this weekend -- it isn't part of the box set.

The sound is impeccable, and for the most part, I prefer these stripped down arrangements, if not the extra banter included.

On the other hand, it does expose that John hadn't been in the studio for awhile. These sound like nice home demos, but given who the artist is, that's better than most of us will do in a pro studio!

Maybe I'll grab the box set tonight with my 40% Borders coupon...

In the end, I just couldn't justify the cost of the Lennon box, even at 40% off -- his solo output, in my view, simply wasn't strong enough in a consistent fashion to shell out that kind of dough for a "complete" package. Maybe I'll buy the remaster of "Imagine" on its own though.

Why thanks Frodo! Been lurking some.

Think about adding the new McCartney Archive "Band on the Run" remaster. Again the Abbey Road team I believe. Sounds great, 2nd disc with extra tracks, and a DVD. I got on sale at the "worst buy" last week for 14.99, included an extra DVD. Haven't watched any of the DVD's yet, CD's are excellent.

When I was in the NG I flew in a helicopter over the Puget Sound by the sub base and I saw a big yellow submarine. I think it must be some kind of test sub or research, but I wanted to sing "we all live in a yellow submarine".

Hi Frodo, I've often thought of you and have been trying to contact you but my emails have failed, so I presume you have a new address. I'd love to hear from you: my only surviving email address is the "bt" one.

Kindest regards,

Paul.

Ps, Sorry to whom it may concern, if I've hijacked this thread!

PJ--- Great to hear from you!! I'll send you a PM.

It would take a Beatles thread to reconnect, eh? :P

Cheers,
