Firewire card and my Ultralite

Post by jerjabs »

Can someone give me a link to a firewire card that will let me run my original Ultralite on my Windows 7 PC? I know it needs to be a T.I. chip set, but there are many out there and I want to get it right the first time.

Thanks!!! :D

I bought the following PCI card:

http://www.amazon.com/LaCie-130820-Fire ... B001MWHI00" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One thing you should know. If you want it to also supply power to the Ultralite, then you need to attach the 4-pin (floppy drive type) power connector to your computer's power supply. There is no cable supplied for that. (Nor a firewire cable supplied). Many power supplies today no longer include the floppy drive type power connection. They usually have the larger 4-pin molex, and SATA power connectors. So you may need an adapter cable too. I picked up one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/4Pin-IDE-ATA-Power- ... 3a5b853bf1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

P.S. This is a PCI card. It will not work in a PCI Express slot.

Thanks for the info J_e_f! Is that LaCie card from Lucent? On Motu's web page they say that cards must have a Texas Instrument or Lacie chip set.

Now I'm TOTALLY confused...

I bought that card and it doesn't fit into my two remaining open shots.

Here are my three motherboard slots, one being taken up with a graphics card.

*
PCI Express x16: 2 (I think this is the graphics card slot)
*
PCI Express x4: 1
*
PCI Express x1: 1

What do I do now? :?

You have only PCI Express slots? Didn't you read my P.S. stating that this is a PCI card that won't work in a PCI Express slot???

There are firewire cards that are made for PCI Express, but that isn't one of them.

Here are some PCI Express cards with T.I. chip:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002S5 ... T2SERP82TZ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.outletpc.com/c5556.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Can't say whether the above have the additional power connector on them. I know some of the cards that sell for a lot more do. But if you're ok with using the MOTU power adapter, you don't care.
