Re: memory or cpu?
The first thing I would do is to install the maximum amount of Ram that the machine can handle.
A dual-processor upgrade might be a later consideration.
I'm working on a demo on my older system that has 8 channels of M5 samples with system responsiveness although the cpu meter is at max.

Re: memory or cpu?
I have A g5 Dual 2.0,and I have been running about at least 30 channels of machfive or more,Plus Sampletank le and Soniksynth2 about 2-4 channels each, and my cpu still is not half way up!I only have 1 gig of ram also.Originally posted by jackorhythm:

Maybe it's the dual prossesing. But also try elemenating any unnecesary polynphony counts.
This also helps greatly.

Re: memory or cpu?
Well Polynthony means the amount of keys that are playing simutamiously.Like say you are only playing about six keys simu"On say channel 6 of machfive,Well if it is still set at 30 wich is Default, than It will take up a whole lot more CPU power than about 8!Lowering this helps greatly,Trust me I have tryed this.Originally posted by jackorhythm:

Re: memory or cpu?
dude-
you rock with high authority. as i assigned each part to a lower number the computer got that much less sluggish until it finally started behaving normally by about the the 5th part set at 8 voices.
thanks for the tip.
