Help - Motif ES8 with mLan16E to DP5.13

Post by Ksmccarthy »

Thanks in advance for your help...

DP 5.13
Keyboard Motif ES8 just got the mLan16E

I'm excited to get it all working fine - MIDI is all working great, I can select up to 16 output channels

except one issue...

I am trying to get audio from the keyboard to DP where I can select the input of an audio track on DP and if would give me a choice of channels 1-16 from a song, pattern or sequence on the keyboard and each channel on the keyboard would record right to a channel on DP...

have already set the keyboard to mLan mode and a mentioned everything else is working great...

I know you can do it, just can't figure out how...

Let me know if you need any more info...thanks!

I had your exact setup a few years back, and it never really worked properly. My understanding is that the mLAN glitches were eventually fixed, so you may find some answers on the MOTIF forum (motifator.com) if you haven't checked there already.

My own memory is too hazy by now to remember the details of how to get both DP and the MOTIF to understand each other's port and channel assignments, but I think part of it had to do with how I dealt with the ports in Audio MIDI Setup.

Good luck. If you get it working, hopefully you will at least have high quality audio with no glitches. I gave up and sold the mLAN stuff (including the mLAN mixer) due to so many glitches. But even the initial setup was complicated and required a lot of cross-referencing. Make sure you have all relevant documentation downloaded from yamahasynth.com.

Thanks mhs...

Yeah, it actually does every thing I want it to except record audio to DP by separating each track of a pattern or song...

I can select the output when it's in MIDI fine...but DP only allows recording one MIDI track at a time...

It was great because its out of the box, plugged in all and working in about 10 minutes! so I was really happy, but then this was the last thing and didn't work...

I would imagine there is some setting I am missing for it to recognize, send and separate each track in record mode so I can transfer a song or pattern to DP through audio and then manipulate each track in DP after audio is recorded from Motif to DP...

If anyone else could help, too that'd be great...

Not sure if I'm on point with your issue here, but DP's MIDI Multi Record definitely allows recording more than one MIDI track at a time.

My recollection is that you have to specifically enable multi-track on the mLAN board. This is just from hazy four-year-old memory at this point, but I do remember it defaulting to some settings designed to increase the chances of success for consumer-level systems, meaning one track at a time, low sample rate, etc.

I seem to recall having to go into some menus on the MOTIF front panel to access enablement of multi-track MIDI. Whether it was multiple tracks on a single port, or limited to between one to four tracks per port, I can't recall, but I think it was four tracks per port maximum, with several mLAN ports being available.
