Good Afternoon,
I bought MachFive a ways back and have just installed it. I also picked up a few oldie-but-goodie Roland and Akai sample CDs on the cheap, only to discover what I suppose everyone else knows but me--that my Mac can't read them. Could anyone enlighten me as to options? Thanks!

Re: Reading sample CDs
Can your machine boot into OS9? I had a problem like that with a couple of my Kurz CD's in OSX, but OS9 was able to read them. So I booted into OS9, and used UVI in OS9 to do the conversions.Originally posted by lamiki:

Re: Reading sample CDs
I tend to be a master of the obvious... but the UVI-Xtract chapter in the manual has a section entitled "Browsing a disc format" that discusses...inserting a sampler disc, wait for Mac OSX to tell you it cannot read the disc (at which point you are given two option buttons: eject, and ignore). Click "ignore" to keep the disc your drive. Then click the Disc button in the browser bar and select Search for sampler disc.
Post your results.
I have been thinking about getting some of the old akai and roland discs.
Peace

All of life should be this easy! Thanks, TimeMist, I was able to follow flashgerkin's directions. And thanks, flashgerkin, for pointing me to the right place in the manual. After getting the ignore/eject message, then reading on page 102 that the mac won't read Roland or Akai discs, it never occurred to me that there'd be a "but here's how" on page 105, amid info on the browser bar.
flashgerkin, the old Roland CDs for the 760 sound great. Frankly, I've always felt them better than anything I've demoed online. The Akai disc sounds great, too (Sonic Reality's American Heartland).
Thanks again to you both.

Re: Reading sample CDs
My first playback sampler was the Roland U220. I went to the store prepared to buy the Emu Proteus, but found the U220 samples more robust and vibrant.the old Roland CDs for the 760 sound great.[/QB]
I used to drool at the sight of the 760 with that huge blue LCD.
Good to hear that things worked out.
