828mkIII and DP3

Post by miket »

I know that the reason of my posting is not completely compliant this section of the forum and for this reason ask the moderators :sorry:

Using a 828mkIII with DP3 can sound very strange, but I realized that my old G4 1,4Ghz Mac under OSX 10.4.11 isn't capable to keep everything in time. Some MIDI sequences - 16 tracks but very dense of notes, sys-ex and CCs - I did several years ago under OS9, now under OSX 10.4.11 and DP5 or 6 play quite weirdly and almost out of tempo.
By the way I have also several hanging notes that under OS9 I hadn't.
Rebooting my Mac and loading the same sequences I got the original, punchy flavor of that time.

Said that, I'm would know if installing FW driver under OS9.2.2 I can use 828mkIII as a simple audio interface.
Is it clear and obvious that I can't access 828mkIII from CueMix, but for this moment I don't need it.

Does MAS can recognize FW Driver and let me use 828mkIII under OS9?

TIA
Michele

I feel ya on DP3. This was the most stable DAW that MOTU ever wrote. A 100% perfect software experience for me - not one single negative issue. I was bummed when I was finally forced into the newer versions too. DP4 was basically DOA for stability. DP5 was better but not even close to the stability of DP3. And yes, you only get about half the processing power you were used to with DP3 in OS9. I've moved on to Reaper now - more stable, more features, more everything. I still like the 828mk3's. Cuemix has a few glaring bugs but overall a really pro system.

Don't hold your breath for support - MOTU has moved on. I made some tech support calls for this a couple years ago and they really weren't happy even discussing it. I think they pretty much got slammed with calls when DP4 was released.

Hello Jim
Very kind of your replying to my post... But the question remains still open.
Can I use within DP3 FW OS9 drivers for the 828mkIII audio interface?

The 828mk3 was never compatible with Mac OS 9.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

Sorry I wasn't clear enough. No you can't. I'm certain that MOTU has moved on and will not be writing one. My only suggestion would be to look into the developer tools for audio (ie. write your own) if this is imperative. Otherwise it's time to move forward. Maybe try Reaper (can I say that here?).

OK guys I'll find another solution because I can't carry on this way.
It's a pity because a great amount of power is lost running OSX and the same features I use within DP3 under OS9 are completely unusable under OSX - at the same processor clock.
