Motu 896 No default Audio under Win7 X64

Hello,

i've installed win7 X64 on my computer. after installation of the latest drivers, the device manager shows motu audio, motu MIDI for 64bit and motu wave for 64bit. so far so good, but the soundmenu shows: no audio devices installed. so i cant set motu 1-2 as windows default sound. when using asio in samplitude and audition, the device works correct. any ideas why i cant see it in the soundmenu and cant set it as default windows sound? Under devices and printers the motu isnt shown as audio device and is as not specified shown.

Any ideas?

I really, really hate this forum software. Please get rid of the "Save" button, or at least move it to the "preview" page. A user would normally expect a "Save" button to save the post to the thread. It doesn't do that. The button named "submit" (which has less relevance to an end user of software) does that. The "save" button on most other forum software does exactly what the save button here doesn't do. I've lost a number of posts now due to this. I'd like to be helpful to posters here, but this forum software really makes that difficult.

Anyway, I wrote a lengthy response to the OP. I'm not going to retype it. I'll just post this.

Don't turn on the MOTU until after you've turned on your computer and it has fully booted. And then wait 10 seconds after the MOTU fully initializes before you run your audio software.

Very strange: also the onboard-sounddevice was never identified if the
Motu is powered on at the boot process.

Well the short version of the "explanation" (and god I hope I don't accidentally click on the inexplicably named "Save" button to "save" this message):

The 64-bit MOTU drivers for Win7 do some "weird" things. They don't properly register with the Windows sound system until:

1) After the OS is fully booted.
2) After the MOTU is powered up.

I haven't disassembled the driver, but I suspect it doesn't do audio registration where it "should".

And the 64-bit drivers are completely broken when it comes to supporting Win7's new audio API called "Windows Audio Session API" (WASAPI). You guys will find out about that when new versions of audio software start to use WASAPI. I wish they'd fix it. (And get a guy who knows C programming instead of the guys who are churning out the really inefficient C++ code that makes up their drivers).

I would like to ask if is necessary to change the IEE1394 driver to
legacy to make it work also or that new tip make work with the new firewire driver rewritten of win7 x64?

The latest drivers (Oct) on MOTU's site fix this problem.
