Is there any chance to run Digital Performer in Windows OS!?
Is there any chance to run Digital Performer in Windows OS!? I was using DP on my friends G4 and I like it a lot. Is there any chance in the near future to run it on Windows OS too!?
Re: Is there any chance to run Digital Performer in Windows
You'd have to ask MOTU that. With the Mac switch to Intel architecture you never know. It's probably easier now than ever and they did have a MIDI only product running on Windows. Maybe it's running secretly in some back room in Cambridge. This possibility is probably very distressing to some folks though. Don't be hatin'.

Why not come to the light full-on and get a Mac? Just about anything one can do on a pc can be done on a Mac. And on a new Mac DP7 will really scream.

Re: Is there any chance to run Digital Performer in Windows
Not what you asked but...
You can usually get a used Mac for closer to Win PC prices. Anything from the last 5 years will be light years ahead of any Win PC. You can run Win apps right in OSX if you didn't know that - so you get access to ALL software with a Mac.

Re: Is there any chance to run Digital Performer in Windows
Most likely not, but if you like DP, then I highly recommend getting an intel based Mac if you can swing it. That way you can run all your existing Windows apps natively on the Mac and run DP on OSX. It's the best of both worlds.sbartol wrote:Is there any chance to run Digital Performer in Windows OS!? I was using DP on my friends G4 and I like it a lot. Install the Wine emulator app and run all your Win apps directly in OSX without installing troublesome Windows.

Yeah, Wine seems like a smart move; I heard that just the essential deceptions are carried out as opposed to full-blown offerings like the popular commercial ones.
I reckon though that anyone migrating to Mac, especially these days, should have less of a problem letting go of favourite apps than would have been the case in the quite recent past.

You need a Macintosh computer to run it, or even see it

Can someone clarify what Wine does? Here's what Wiki says: Wine is a free software application that aims to allow computer programs written for Microsoft Windows to run on Unix-like operating systems.
That's not going to run DP on Windows.

Re: Is there any chance to run Digital Performer in Windows
There is no equivalent of Wine for Windows. Windows users are restricted to software written specifically for Windows. You get what you pay for there. If you want unlimited software choices you need a Mac.bayswater wrote:Can someone clarify what Wine does? Re: Is there any chance to run Digital Performer in Windows
The advantage with an Intel-Mac is that it run Windows, either via Bootcamp or in tandem with OSX through options such as Parallels, VirtualBox, and so on. It's a fairly seamless experience. So if there are a few Windows apps that you need that are not ported over to OSX, it's a great solution. If you're on a PC and want to get into DP, it is the solution.bayswater wrote:Can someone clarify what Wine does? There's your answer, Baysey. Only the ports/support files/settings/protocols or whatever are emulated, as opposed to a blanket, all-encompassing emulation. I read about this a year ago but that's the gist I got.monkey man wrote:... Re: Is there any chance to run Digital Performer in Windows
Thanks. I was really asking why Wine was being suggested to someone who wants to run DP on a PC. Wine works the other way around. But I suppose it was all just a nice way of saying "get a mac".monkey man wrote:There's your answer, Baysey. I had a look at Wine, BTW, and also the commercial variant, Crossover. They support a very limited list of Windows apps, most of which have a Mac version (like Office) or equivalent (like Safari).
The OP will have a licensed copy of Windows (we hope), and can just use Bootcamp, and get full Windows support.

Well, you're a genius, Baysey.
I'm ashamed to admit that I missed that even though something just didn't seem right. Must get my MonkeyLabs 8bit BS Detector™ serviced.
