MIKTEK AUDIO microphones---keep your ears peeled!!!
Howdy, ya'll....this morning I had the opportunity to meet with the folks from MIKTEK AUDIO which is a NEW company, however the people behind these microphones are seasoned veterans in this industry. I'm NOT easily impressed and do have many manufacturers that come to me about their---and those that do business with me know this, that I am VERY critical of gear as I prefer quality! As you all know there are many choices out there for microphones, so who needs another manufacturer on the scene? I thought that myself----but after getting the chance to listen to their line-up this morning I must admit, I'm going to be purchasing their mics myself! Currently they make (3) models: The C5 pencil-style SDC's.... C7 multi-pattern LDC FET microphone and the CV4 multi-pattern Tube Microphone. I had the microphones setup side by side going through the same micpres and converters, listening to the source material. Each microphone did NOT disappoint when placed up against other indstury-standard microphones (Which I'll not talk about that here) yet in most cases were far less money than these other microphones Let me say this..... for those that have an opportunity to try these out, do so! I really expect some incredible things from MikTek in the months to come. Try them out, I think you'll be surprised at not only how they sound---but just how well they are built.
There is a CV4 and a pair of C5's going into my microphone locker shortly......
Here is their website: http://www.miktekaudio.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And a blog I wrote earlier with my thoughts:
http://www.theaudioprofessional.com/NEW ... HONES.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hey Brad, just spoke to a Sweetwater rep the other day concerning mics and he didn't hesitate to introduce the Mikteks to me. Sounds as though everyone over there were pretty blown away with the presentation. I know you're a huge MA-200 fan and just wanted to know your take on how it compares with the Miktek CV4...realizing the Royer is strictly cardioid as opposed to the CV4 with 9 polar patterns. My question is the sound. Also your thoughts on the Avantone CV-12. Thanks.

I gotta say, Brad has yet to steer me wrong. And they do take good care of you at Sweetwater. I used to sort of not "get" that part of the equation, but then I learned sometimes it's worth paying $5 more to deal with people who generally know what the heck they're talking about!

That's strange, I don't see the MikTek mics in the Sweetwater Cataloge..are they so new (the mics) that they didn't get into the recent catalogue...??

There's some good mics around these days for less. $1600 after tax is a bit much when you can get strong contenders for around $600-$700. Modifying a chinese tube can yield extremely excellent results and these mics seem like they are basically the same thing as a modified chinese unit.

Congrats! They are taking longer to get in than expected, and the floods in Nashville don't help, but it will be worth the wait.

Re: MIKTEK AUDIO microphones---keep your ears peeled!!!
Thanks Brad, yeah...I am looking forward to it...it could still be a few weeks away, Sweetwater says they keep rolling back the ship date...that's ok though, I don't have anything going right now that couldn't wait. Can't wait to see how it sounds with my Avalon..!!BradLyons wrote:Congrats! They are taking longer to get in than expected, and the floods in Nashville don't help, but it will be worth the wait.

Re: MIKTEK AUDIO microphones---keep your ears peeled!!!
Wow cool to hear! You're probably much better off for avoiding the 414. Granted I know the TL II's are better. I had a 414 B/ULS that I had upgraded by Jim at Audio Upgrades and still I was never thrilled with that mic. My Red Type B blew it away.

Re: MIKTEK AUDIO microphones---keep your ears peeled!!!
Yeah, the other 414 I had and sold was the same one you had(minus the upgrade) and although I liked it I thought it always sounded a little thin and bitey. This MikTek is incredible sounding, especially coupled with the Avalon 737sp tube pre, no EQ needed what-so-ever. I have just practiced with it so far but it is making singing fun again. I can't believe it was only $1299.00....!!
