UAD users - have you ever seen this?

Post by David Polich »

Over the last two days, I started getting crashes on my UAD-1 card.
The project has a high track count and heavy native plug-in instances on
all tracks. I have seven Neve 88RS channel strips running on the UAD-1 -
usually the card handles this well. But I have had four instances
of DP playback stuttering and simultaneously getting a UAD dialog
box that says, "one or more of your UAD plugins has been
deactivated. Please close your project and quit the application".
When I open the UAD monitor display, it shows no activity - the
card is just not functioning.

Closing the project, quitting DP, then relaunching and reloading
the project results in everything working again.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Yeah, just tonight for the first time. The uad 1 card didn't show up for DP7.2 or the UAD Meter app until I restarted the G5.

I had a conversation with UA tech support this morning and they suggested
I download the latest UAD software, then uninstall and reinstall. Did that,
so far so good...

Dave, yes, I definitely experienced this problem a lot when I was using UAD-1 cards in a Magma chassis and running a lot of plug-ins (and high intensity ones like the Neve plugs). Your workaround as described in your o/p was always the solution. Bothersome, yes, but it worked. I upgraded to a UAD-2 Quad, and I haven't experienced that problem with this system ... yet.

Cheers,
Erik

Hey, Erik, sorry I missed the Keyfax conference. It would have been
great to see you.

I was on the phone yesterday with a friend who has also experienced this
same thing running UAD-2 Solo cards on his MacPro Quad-Core. So I guess
it's possible on any system.

Ran DP 7.2 all day yesterday with the reinstalled UAD software and had no
problems...it might have indeed been corrupted software.
