Third Party DIMMS memory for G5?
Are any of you using third party memory in your G5s? I'm getting ready to buy a G5 for use with DP, and I obviously want as much memory as possible, but that Apple Memory - if bought from Apple in 2GB sticks - is expensive! (about $1200 per 2GB) I notice that some third party companies sell 2Gb sticks for between $400 and $500, but I'm wondering whether it would be a mistake to go with a different company. Any advice would be much appreciated.

-Does it make difference in performance you think if you use a third party ram if we would compare it with the Mac ram or is it neglectable?
I mean qua plug-in instances.
-Say if you use rams from different brands in your Mac, does that affect the performance or if you use say one 1 GB and another 2 GB dimm would that affect any performance.
I want to test that or maybe there is somebody who did it.

Apple's dirty little secret is that they use Kingston/ other high quality generic RAM in their computers anyway. When Apple started using PC100 RAM in the G3/G4s, it was kingston, at least in my machine.
You can get away with non Apple RAM, just make sure it is high quality and the right type.

At work (IT in a marketing firm) we only use 3rd party RAM in all of our 300+ Macs. The Apple RAM is outrageously overpriced. We have seen no issues. Remember Apple buys there RAM from a 3rd party.
Just buy from a reputable dealer who will replace defective sticks. I like Data Memory Systems <datamem.com> and have used them for over a decade. The Chip Merchant is also good.

I followed Hiro's advice and bought mine through datamem.com. The chips work great on my G5 and the pricing, shipping and customer service was superb.
