external hard drive

Post by mattyN »

hi,

i am putting together a lil home DAW. i'm officially going MOTU all the way... w/ an 828 & DP as my backbone.

i'm using a new powerbook, G4 1.67 ghz, 1.5 mb ram, OS 10.4.

one of the next purchases i want to make is an external hard drive which i will dedicate entirely to audio...

thoughts? suggestions?

Just my thought here with no offence to the suggestions already presented.

I went to my local pc/mac repair shop.

The tech guy there assembled a firewire/USB drive for me.

The external case was the most expensive part of the deal.

The drive is 7200rpm.

The whole pkg cost me $225. plus FederalSalesTax ( @ 7% ).

This unit and the others have been running for more then a year. Most of the time they are on 24/7 because I always forget to shut the power off.

If you have both FW 400 and 800 ports, maybe get a FW 800 drive. Other World Computing has good deals, and their drives come in a case with no fan, which means they're pretty darned quiet.

A very good option is to get a drive with removable bay. This way you are set-up for a long time.
