YOu can ask for your money back. What makkes you think you're entitled to it? I use and still use and love Mosaic. I'm as frustrated as anybody aout the issue. But I've gotten much work out of it. I don't think the license I paid for says anything about being able to use the software in perpetuity.
All the best,

Hello

If you configure an OS 9 partition on your computer you'll still be able to use it. You will have to start up under OS 9 and not run under classic to use it.

That might work on older machines, but newer Macs cannot boot into OS9 even if you have a dedicated partition. That's one of the reasons I'm hanging on to my Dual-800 G4: to run these types of software programs that haven't been (and may not ever be) upgraded to OS X and won't run under Classic mode, but that I still need to use.

That said, I don't think betobomba is going to have much luck getting his or her money back. Unfortunately, accelerated obsolescence is the nature of the beast with software and hardware.

that‘s the main problem, i can not install the program in newer machines, i think i‘m not the only one with this problem so motu has to give us a pach to install it under classic mode, so we can use it in that way or what?

I'm no programmer, so I can't speak about the exact reasons why Mosaic won't run under Classic mode. The most likely reason is that many MIDI apps did some funky direct hardware communication that isn't allowed in a virtual machine like Classic.

It may be possible for a patch to provide functionality under classsic, but my gut feeling is that if that were the case, MOTU would have already issued it so that they could continue to derive income from the product.

Beto, I hate to say it, but I think you're probably out of luck on this one. Mosaic was already a functional orphan in the MOTU lineup even before OS X came around. My only complaint about MOTU's behavior is that they haven't (to my knowledge) made an official statement about its status.

Not sure if this would help you:

old/used Mac's are very cheap these days especially when purchased from a PC/Mac repair shop.

Don't go to an Apple Service shop because although they may have an old Mac they still overcharge.

Yep, I'm in the same situation. Mosaic is one of the reasons I haven't got a new computer and gone to system 10 .. until now. In the process of going from serial to USB, and running OSX, I am having to upgrade nearly everything I run. It's a drag but I've had a pretty good run from all the gear I've used til now. An upgrade in Mosaic looks like it will be to Sibelius. I wish MOTU would give some official information about the future/no future of Mosaic. DP notation is no substitute.

I have hardcopy prints of most of the scores I've done in Mosaic. My advice would be to to get good prints of as many of your scores as you can (using an older Mac and a decent printer). Then later on, if you choose, you might be able to import your music into an OSX notation program via a scanner. I'm not sure how accurate this kind of software is yet, but at least you'll have the printouts. (There are a few scores of mine that I never printed out, and I fear they'll be gone for good if I don't do SOMETHING with them soon.)

Now that MOTU have officially abandoned Mosaic ... it should become freeware.

I own an iBook ... which has a partitioned hard drive, I bought it about two and a half years ago when I hear apple was abandoning OS 9 from its models.

The machine still works fine and is a beautiful computer to work with.
iBook with partioned drive to run Mosaic, also own Sibelius & Finale but badly miss the ease of use that is Mosaic.
