New Drivers 4.0.42114 dated 14/07.2010

Post by RonaldDumsfeld »

That's right. There are new drivers available on the MOTU site.

MOTU_Audio_Installer-Win-100712.zip
Date: 2010/07/14
Version: 4.0.42114

I'm guessing it's mainly for the new MicroBook but has anyone installed them yet? Any known fixes? I'm inclined to leave well alone since I'm used to the bugs in the current package and they are not critical.

I have the UltraLite-MK3.

I have this driver build installed and the performance I'm getting is excellent! Running heavy demo projects and personal projects at 64 samples with no pops, clicks, or crackles.

In the SONAR forum, a user has reported that this driver build fixed a horrendus latency issue he was having even when using a 64 samples latency setting when connected to the MIDI In on the rear of the UltraLite-MK3 Hybird. He says he installed this new driver build and now playing softsynths is working like a charm.
May a song always touch you in a possitive way!

The driver download page says minimum requirements are XP SP3, I'm on SP2, does this mean I should finally take the chance and go to SP3?
or better yet even update to Windows 7?

Peace,
Billy

P.S. My MOTU 828 Mk3 works fine on the 3.6.8.1410 driver.

Will I be able to notice any performance improvement by going to this new driver?

That's what we are trying to discover Billy.

So far it looks encouraging with at least two confirmed fixes and no reports of new bugs.

So I took the plunge this afternoon with a Ultralite Hybrid running on a ASUS P6T Deluxe under Vista 64.

I normally uninstall all drivers and software manually before a big upgrade but in this case I decided to follow MOTU's instructions to the letter. So I didn't and left it to the installer.

There is a proper installer now as well. You get the option to install for a Microbook and compulsory updates to generic FW/USB installer.

As a basic confidence test level it worked great if a little slower than I expected. USB and FW, DS and ASIO drivers. No audible differences but I was generally click and buzz free to begin with. It doesn't install the GSIF driver if it doesn't detect Tascam gear same as always but there was an entry for it in the in the registry which is wierd.

I had to delete and remake my Audio Console shortcut but that's no big deal.

No changes noticed. All 3 drivers ( DS. ASIO, MIDI) are new versions dated 12/07/2010. Cuemix, AudioConsole, SMPTE Console, and MFWAkeys are new executeables also dated 12/07/2010. It still insists on installing the stupid pedal handler even though it cannot be used and tries to put it into the startup list. Doesn't delete the old one either but that's the same as the previous release.

I wish Cuemix had a version number somewhere because the first thing I noticed after starting it was it looked exactly the same and had carried over my settings perfectly. This was a bit of a disappointment as I noticed the Microbook allows you to output audio direct to a mix bus as well as a specific output I'd I'd hoped it might have been general.

The second thing was that the little chooser arrow on the bottom left hand corner of the black EQ display no longer offers an option to expand to fill the entire lower left of the display. I used to use that but the Devices>FFT analysis option does the same job and you can still see all the controls.

I reported a number of minor bugs regarding Cuemix metering inaccuracies and sequences of operation where metering always fails until a hard restart to MOTU previously and they acknowledged they existed and said fixes might be considered for a future release. When I went back to the MOTU site so I could test I discovered the tech notes had been deleted without informing me so I'll have to look for some old notes. Certainly though input monitoring still never goes into the red no matter how hot the signal.

Haven't got round to checking latencies or MIDI yet but I never had any complaints before so I wouldn't know what to look for.

So it looks good from a quick look confidence perspective.

Nothing yet that really justifies updating if you currently have a satisfactory system running but if you know of specific circumstances that currently cause you problems let me know and I'll try and test if you might expect some improvement.

Cheers.

System uptime is now 9 days and 13 hours. MOTU has really fixed the driver because it was completely impossible for me to go much longer than 3 ever, since I got the MOTU unit years ago.

Excellent job MOTU! Thank you once again.

Well, I bit the bullet and upgraded from XP SP2 to SP3 and installed the latest driver. So far so good, I haven't recorded or used Cubase SX3 yet but have listened to music through Wavelab and even played some live through mics using Cuemix FX. All seems to be working well. I will try to test more thoroughly soon.

Peace,
Billy

Just installed these drivers for a Mk1 Ultralite on a W7 x64 bit machine. Non-TI firewire chipset. Been using the legacy firewire driver with a few very minor pops, really no big deal.

Anyway for some reason thought I'd try the standard firewire driver (1394 OHCI Compliant Host COntroller) and blow me but no pops at all and even seeing less CPU usage in Sonar 8.5.

HTH somebody, can always revert back to legacy drivers easy enough.

Is it possible to just update the drivers and keep the old CueMix?
