DP 7.2 - MP3 export extremely slow

Post by jjohnson »

Hey guys,

Not sure if this has been reported already, but I'm noticing a considerably slower MP3 export than previous versions (when exporting MP3 from Soundbites window). I'm on a non-intel machine, and it was never super fast before, but now it is painfully slow. Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks!

Another feature I didn't know about, since I do MP3 at the tail end of mastering and thus outside of DP.

If it makes you feel any better, it takes on average about 20 minutes or so for me to convert a short 2:30 to 3:30 length demo from WAV to MP3 in BIAS Peak Pro. I have no idea how much of that is because of my G4 specs.

exporting as an mp3 immediately crashes my mac book pro. just discovered this. previous versions worked great. i am back to opening up the track in i tunes and using that converter for now.

i also have experienced exteemely long save times, to where i think something is wrong.

Not sure if this would fix things, but you might try downloading the latest LAME framework, since DP encodes from that.

I can tell you what the problem is as I have had serious crashes recently in the Bounce to disc in MP-3 format as well as other formats..and slow bounces also. it is in the manual. The gist of it is that some third party plug-ins don't recognize DP's bounce to disc feature. If you are using only DP plugs it works great...some third party plugs work..others work but make the process slow...others crash DP 7.2 immediately. In the manual it is on page 973 on the right hand side of the page. I quote "This will work with "almost" all MAS and AU instrument plug-ins; however there are some plug-ins which do not support Digital Performers Bouce to Disc" end quote. Therefore, making bounce to disc almost worthless......which isn't DP's fault but a PITA none the less. The work around is to either freeze or render all tracks before bouncing...UGGGGGG

I've also found that importing an mp3 on DP 7.2 can be a little slower than usual. I do recall that MOTU said they were doing some improvements to the import/export mp3 engine for 7.2. Hmmmmm..........
